Its pretty #$%*ed how far back you have to search and dig in this forum to find real, truthfull, correct information.  The unlimited, easy  access of the internet really seems to breed unreality.
If it works good, it looks good...

That is true. A lot of good solid information was offered over the years. While this version of the forum stated in 2005, the group started several years earlier. It was a crude email based group. These bikes were not a popular and the members were fairly good at problem solving and the solutions were very practical and inexpensive. A lot of the members were running on a shoestring budget.

If you dig back you find people creating photographic tutorials. When I did my steering bearings, I had it in front of me step by step and I avoided having to ask questions about which washer went where and how to drive out the races.

Having said that, some of the newer and younger members have brought some amazing skills. People have access to CNC and other sophisticated  machine shop equipment.

In someways this is a better place, in other ways the culture has changed a bit. Probably due to what you see on some other forums which are large on attitude and short on information.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

+1. Well said Bobby. A friend of mine was just explaining the typical devolvement of online forums yesterday. He was spot-on.  :)

There did seem to be more useful technical tidbits getting posted a few years back. A fresh nugget still pops up occasionally but it's definitely a rare breed. Sharing technical stuff and occasional purchases are my reason for membership. My social life and personal well being are fulfilled extraneous to the internet.  ;)

Sure hope Glenn gets the search function back online for reference. Just guessing he doesn't have enough PC horsepower/storage. ???

I admit, I have no life.

The best thing goin in my town are country roads and mediocre internet speeds.
Im waiting on parts to arrive so if anyone needs me I'll be in the bar.
Parts which i would not have known I needed or been able to source without the fine folks on this forum.

Cheers

Yeah, back in the old "Greenspun" days, this was just a CB750 site, and I think we had a much better class of forum member back then, but due to the whining of a few owners of lesser (capacity) SOHC4's, Glenn opened the doors to all comers, and just like iraq after it was "Liberated", I don't always think it's a better place now.............. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

It is true, the CB450 is a very impressive bike, if only it came with an adjustable steering damper........ ;D

As usual Mate you articulated some of the problem clearly. It became a tourist attraction. Smaller bikes may not be the actual problem, it is the number of people. A certain percentage of any population are #$%*s. The larger the group, the larger the number of #$%*s. This Community of ours has been pretty good at policing itself and seems to continue to do so.

Like any Community the Greenspun population aged and gave up riding, so they drifted away. I think if the newer members maintain some of that culture - which they can, we will be OK.

Unlike the "Greenspun" days there was no CMSL, David Silver etc, you made do with what you had, and traded with others.
