It might be too easy to delete the profile? One button and it's over....  a verification one week later of the request can save members of loosing friends for small things.
Respect to each other is important when this is about real things and real experiences.

I think it's also very difficult to speak about a bike(or personal problem)problem or have certain discussions over the internet. When you've got the bike right there in front of you and you're both looking at it together and making eye contact things seem a lot simpler to me imo.
I think there's a type of 'non verbal communication' that gets missed-out on if you can't really look at the stuff you're speaking about..  ::)

Opinions... Idk guys, if you like it, and you feel good about it, then it really doesn't matter what other people think. Is it dangerous? Ugly? Maybe. But again if it's ok by your standards than whatever... Politics and religion ruin relationships. You just have to take everything less seriously. After all, it is just the Internet. You know how many 14 year old losers I've probably argued with? A lot. Back in the AOL dial up days I'm sure there was a lot of explicit chats with young women (old men) when I was a minor. It's just the nature of the beast. You can't take anything online super serious.

I didn't care for Lloyd either Bobby, and only some of his information was ever "correct". He didn't know sh1t about the benefits of oil coolers, steering dampers or electronic ignitions, so he declared them all as "Snake Oil", and attacked anyone who didn't agree with him. Ha ha, to be fair to Lloyd he was a very knowledgeable guy Bobby, none of us can deny that, but he was a hard man to get along with. As has been said before, the internet is to some a place where you can say things to people that you wouldn't ever be game to say to their faces, and Lloyd often stepped over that line.

Anyway, I'm glad that you're still here mate. Incidentally, I work with a guy who was an Aussie chopper pilot in Vietnam, and when he tells me about his experiences there I can't help but think about what it must have been like for you. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Tom/Wobbly sure is a very good guy to know. For my current build, I was merely contemplating asking him for some help in a thread somewhere, and he found it and reached out to me before I even got to asking him. I'm relatively new around here, but many of you know him better so I'd imagine you'd agree that it had less to do with opinionated people and more to do with inexperienced folks making authoritative assertions while actively denying real world experience. IIR that damned damper threat correctly, I totally understand the frustration.

Still, no denying its a shame losing good contributors.

What always impressed me about Wobbly was how fast he would ride, and how late/early he would traverse the high mountain passes..
We dont have many riders like that over here.. The cold part..
And the fast part..over here they will take your bike away...

Also blown away at all the post bemoaning this guy leaving and raving about all his grandeur. He must have walked on water and I missed it!  ???

Its pretty #$%*ed how far back you have to search and dig in this forum to find real, truthfull, correct information.  The unlimited, easy  access of the internet really seems to breed unreality.

That is true. A lot of good solid information was offered over the years. While this version of the forum stated in 2005, the group started several years earlier. It was a crude email based group. These bikes were not a popular and the members were fairly good at problem solving and the solutions were very practical and inexpensive. A lot of the members were running on a shoestring budget.

If you dig back you find people creating photographic tutorials. When I did my steering bearings, I had it in front of me step by step and I avoided having to ask questions about which washer went where and how to drive out the races.

Having said that, some of the newer and younger members have brought some amazing skills. People have access to CNC and other sophisticated  machine shop equipment.

In someways this is a better place, in other ways the culture has changed a bit. Probably due to what you see on some other forums which are large on attitude and short on information.
