Old Rider; New Addition
« on: September 03, 2016, 06:21:32 AM »
Bought my CB750 new in 1973 and still riding it, sort of.  In other words, all miles were earned with my seat and my bike seat.  Has been sitting too long; have been working too much, and now wanting to bring my baby back. My avatar is a lousy pic for now and will replace with a better one later.
Currently have air box and carbs completely apart and ordering gaskets, washers and orings.  Let it sit too long unridden with that crap gas. Learned my lesson on that.  This board has been a life saver for me.  Latest was a final float pin that was stuck.  The tip to use a spring loaded punch solved it.  Look forward to when the built in search function on here is repaired. Pleasure to be part of a group that appreciates the classics. 8)

Definitely a 70's bike-sissy bar, 4 into 2, crash bars, lower seat 8).  Should look real nice when done.  Manual is downloadable on this site, and welcome...Larry

Welcome. Your one of only a handful of members here that are original owners of their sohc4's. Congrats! I know what your talking about, the 750K4 I purchased in 2014 had been sitting in the owners basement for around 30 years and was park with gas still in it :( Just recently got it back on the road 8)

Nice pic of back in the day ;) We all like pictures here so if you got more please post them. So how long has the bike been parked and how many miles on it. By your original pic looks like it needs very little to get it up and running and on the road again. Did you choose to replace the 341 pipes or did they rust out.

Thank you sir.  Wife was carrying that pic around, but I'll dig some more out. As I think about it that was my summer of '76 ride.  Left Winston-Salem and ended up at the Olympics in Montreal.
Anyway, had it last running well in 2010. not run since. When I pulled carbs apart a month ago worst part was varnished and stuck floats. Also the air box boots were too stiff.  Replacing those and waiting for wire tool for jets, some o-rings and washers. Read on here about how good simple green is, and I agree.  The soak baths have been great.
When I first owned bike I was too young to have a garage and too dumb to cover it, so original pipes only lasted a few years.  As I recall I put on Jardine megaphones, and they are still there with some fair rust.  May eventually replace.
Just want to get it (and me) riding again.  BTW, it always had a sloppy head gasket, which I have read was a trademark for these bikes that year.
More later.  8)

I don't know of another one so I guess your talking about Winston Salem, NC to Montreal Canada. Now that's a nice little trip around the block but when your young no big deal ;) Do you still live in WS, I noticed Va tags on the bike. I have a 750K6 also and it seeps a little oil in the head gasket area too. Been doing that since I got it in 2009. Hasn't got any worse in seven years and the bike runs fine so until it does Im not messing with it. More than likely it's not the head gasket that's seeping its the cam tower pucks causing the leak. The engine has to come out to do that repair so mine will have to get a whole lot worse before I tackle that ;D
