martek 440 help
« on: September 06, 2016, 09:57:52 PM »
i was tearing down my bike earlier this year to replace some gaskets and as it always goes it got put off. so i'm finally getting it back together and i see that i disconnected the wires from the points cover and wasn't sure where they went. come to find out my bike has a martek 440 ignition. so i did some research and found the instructions and whatnot. problem is the three wires have completely lost their color and i can't tell whats from what. there's one that is pretty dark which i assume is the black ground wire that taps into the brake switch. then the other two are a lighter color which i'm sure is suppose to go into the blue and yellow wires on the existing harness, but i can't tell what's what.

You have a 50/50 chance of getting the blue and yellow wires right. Just plug them in. If you have them backwards, it'll be pretty obvious pretty quickly.

On my martek 440, the wiring and everything is covered and sealed until the last inch where it connects behind the oil tank.  One blue, one yellow, one black.  But if you can't tell which is which on the yellow and blue, just hook them up and see if it idles.  If not, try the opposite.  Just like Scott said.
