Robinson Precision Engines RPE equivalent

Hey guys!

I was looking around for my winter project trying to gather parts and came around the RPE website... These guys are located in australia and do CRAZY work performance wise...

I mean... Big bores on SOHC bikes up to 1340cc...

There facebook page realy is interesting and after seeing all this, i just wondered if some of you guys knew places on this side of the world.... Hahaha who go to this extent in building race bikes, like ours and offer the same services as RPE does!

If you get a chance to look them up on facebook, those pics and videos are just amazing... I'm still waiting on a response from them after asking if they would ship out to canada... Or usa for you guys! I doubt it... But it's worth trying!

beyond the nice work what i find most amazing is that the Aussie scene is able to sustain all this monster building industry.... here in italy, a country with 3 times the population we are struggling to have enough participants in the open, 750 and 500 classes.... let alone a 1300 hyper modified monsters like down under, which we simply don't even dream off... go figure...

Well guys... I have been speaking with one of the guys over at RPE and there up for the project. Shipping won't be an issue and these guys are ready to take my project quite far for me to be able to assemble it over here opposed to what they normaly do.

I will try to post information as i get it, this build will take some time, and money... But it sure will be a trill!

 This is still embryonic... And will take some time to gather up everything. But engine wise...
This will be a 1200cc engine That was dyno proven at 135whp and 100 ftlb on methanol and sure is strong enough to be turboed later on.

First overview looks as follows.
CR 35mm carbs, race undercut gearbox, race head (valves, springs, welded on head spigots, etc...), massive cam, slipper pistons, RPE H beam rods, race lightened and knife edged crank, and probably many etc and etc.

We are still talking all this through but this is roughly were i will be taking this.

I will let post updates as they come, so for those interested, stay tuned!

Just a word of caution.
What you are talking about is a 100 hour race motor, it will not be streetable in any way shape or form.

Well 100 hours seems good if this turns out to be soo... This will keep me going from mai to september and occupied from september till mai ;)

I just can't stand having my garage all clean and tidy... It's making me nervous. So this sould be a fun project.

I am no master mechanic, and sort of a slow builder, so anyone interested in helping out is welcome to do so. This forum is an overwhelming source of information... And lots of you are quite inspireing. This will be my first thread... And my english is #$%*ty ...( i'm french for those wondering ) Therefore, please be indulgent!

Discussions are going good as of now and should be able to get some goodies in the next few months.

As far as reliability goes, the guys over at RPE are more then satisfied with their race engine... I wanted something brutal and unique, and this should and will pretty much be it...

For those interested, here is what Paulo over at RPE described what this is going to be ;

" This engine is going to be a brute...power delivery is going to be very sudden and torque will come on with a vengeance. Idle will sound like a big cammed V8. Power from 2500-9000rpm. "

This has got to make some of you guys drule...  I can allready hear it annoying my wife and kids rumbling in the garage!

I wouldn't use methanol for a street bike, it needs to be removed from the engine virtually every time you use it, It can't be left sit in the carbs, it must be flushed out completely after use, it is highly corrosive and not a fuel you'd use for a street bike..  Ask Bear about this, his sidecar race engine is similar and runs methanol.... Did you tell RPE that it was to be a street bike...?

It isn't going to be a street bike... It is mainly going to be used for drag and racing events. I just wanted to be able to take it out for a rough spin if ever i felt like it. I allready have my daily home made personal " hotrod"...!

This bike could be ran on E85 or fuel pump gas... Which it wont...

OK,

If you are going to use it primarily for drag racing, can I suggest you talk to Paulo about drive line components.

Like my S/C motors you will be stessing 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears along with the cush drive to a higher degree than their road racer.

It is unlikely that the stock gears, undercut will handle the loads.
Nor will the cush drive, if 70 duro rubbers are used.

By the way, your English seems pretty good to me.

My honest answer to that is not at all! But the way you bring it makes it sound like a whole lot of trouble!!

Racing fuel methanol and other alternatives will be evaluated along the way.

I get the fact that it is what produces a cooler and consistant burn, i also get that is needs "some" precautions and taken mesures for it to work.

But then again... Beating the crap out of anything brings its lot of problems somewhere down the road.

I'm brainstorming all of this, and your inputs are all very welcome!

The second shows a std gear compared to the gears we use.

Questions for RPE.....when you do the 1350 CBX sleeves , that will break thru the stock cylinder, do they weep oil?  I shipping to the US a problem?

CBX 1350 - it does break out but you can avoid the oil leaks using some extra machining steps. We are preparing a kit with pistons (cast or forged), rods, gasket and sleeves and should be ready late October / November. With the kit there will be detailed instructions on how to proceed. Contact us then and we will get you sorted. Shipping to US in not a problem

Our cam is classified, Im affraid.

CB750 cams is a very interesting subject ;) So little difference can do so much.

CBX1350 will be 900cc in a CB750, right? 67.5mm pistons? No need of machining the upper case, or just a slight grinding with dremel?

I have an old cylinder with 900cc Henry Abe. But the sleeves were rather thick so it was a break thru to the air tunnels 1-2, 3-4 and oil.... Sleeves OD 74.2mm. Newer 900 kits are slimmer and no problems I suppose.

I have plans about welding the holes, drill to 75mm and mount new sleeves I have for 70-72mm pistons.

So here it is, the 1978 pile of crap that will be used for this project!

It's a k model with somewhat of an f setup.

Anyways, it still has a long way to go before it sees day light again!!
