Looking for a shipper from SC to PA, Cal to the rescue FINI
« on: September 13, 2016, 07:28:28 PM »
Had yet another bad experience with Uship on transportation of my new to me Kawasaki Concours.  Anyhow, the bike is in South Carolina and needs to come to eastern  Pennsylvania.  I don't want to fly down and drive back, but I will if I cannot find a good shipper.  Anyone know of one who travels up and down the east coast?  ...Larry

Wish I could help, Larry.

You can always make a pit stop at my place if you end up riding North

Thanks for the offer Prokop.  It is almost 600 miles from where the bike is to home-don't think I would be able to do that in one day.  Have done it in the past but at 70 the body isn't what it used to be......and that is :(

On the way to work , I'll tell the story later

Unless you know for sure the bike was in tip top shape it might be kind of spooky taking off on a 600 miles jaunt home.

Do you remember the Pacific Coast fiasco?  I did not realize at the time the shippers had rating(plus he was the only bidder) so I hired him.  His truck broke down and he abandoned the PC in Youngstown, IL, where forum member DonR came to the  rescue.  He held it at his house until there was a bid to bring it from there to my place in PA.  That shipper was very professional in both demeanor and equipment.

Here is the bike that needs a shipper
 http://www.ebay.com/itm/282111984997?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I accepted a bid of 250 from a 5 star shipper to bring it from Gastonia, NC to PA.  Well, when the shipper arrived at the location the owner called me  with the following info,  "these guys have no idea what they're doing and I would recommend not using them". He actually refused to release the bike-looking out for me. They had a Uhaul trailer attached to a pick up, there was one bike in the pick up bed, a large bike in the trailer along with some furniture.

So the bike sat at his house for a couple weeks, when my friend Matt, a fellow forum member BTW, picked it up and drove it to his place in SC. He called me with the following info, "worst ride I've ever had, bike runs like crap, took me an hour and a half for my hands to stop tingling".

So I call the owner, who was responsible and kind enough to ride down to Matt's house and get the bike running correctly.  Seems that in less than a month the pilot jets became clogged..   Matt has given me the thumbs up on performance but I am a bit hesitant to ride back 600 miles.  AND AFTER TWO  BAD USHIP EXPERIENCES I want to find a recommended shipper or fly down and ride back.  Probably have to take an emergency leave from work if I go down.

not as of yet. It is safe at a friends in SC.  Cal has offered to bring it to VA if he goes by SC.  Richmond then wouldn't be too far from me-probably a day there and back

I'll be picking it up Tuesday. After that, we will sort out delivery to MD/PA.

It's at Matt's house?  If yes, can you do me a favor?

Momo, sorry to read of the woes... Glad your having some help with the bike transport.   Cal to the rescue...you will get to meet him.
David
I used a shipper for a bike from RI to AZ...great shipper.  Negative was they had a 27 ft tandem axle car hauler box trailer and they had it pretty tight ly pack...lots of Harleys.  I backed one of them down the ramp so they could get to the cx500 plastic maggot. Was the only time I have been astride a Harley that was running.  Only sat on one other Harley in my life...they simply do not appeal to me.  They remind me of the Big Wheel toy kids had after I had grown up... maybe that is part of why everyone is so drawn to the Harley.  That and the sense of community and friendship/commradre that usually comes with riding one. That sense of belonging many in this world want...just an inate human desire.

Still say the title of plastic maggot should go to my Pacific Coast David. After all there isn't one bit of steel on the body

So,, the guy in Youngstown is no longer on the shipper list? L0L!  Personally I liked the plastic maggot, if the shipper hadn't lost the windshield I might have ridden it to PA.!

Yes, Don.  Jay has gotten out ofMC shipping but still does other stuff.  He recommended two shippers but neither seemed all that interested..  The PC will be up for sale soon as I get the Concours.  I've been riding one of my Ninja 600s on a daily basis, it is one fun little bike...Larry

MoMo, you are  gonna have to call it Plastic Maggot #2... the Brits coined the term but it is a disparaging label I appreciate for the humor.  Sounds like you may have a buyer for your PC aka Plastic Maggot #2...the number 2 shouldn't be associated with another #2 as they are a nice touring bike but one you've grown tired of...  Ever consider a Transalp?  Or a WeeStrom?
The TransAlp is still expensive because of the cult like following it has.
