Greetings - 78 CB550
« on: September 12, 2016, 06:58:34 AM »
Hi guys,

My name is Paul and I recently picked up a non-running 78 Cb550.

I've been in the car space for a long-time and finally made the transition to Motorcycles.
I'm based out of NYC and plans for the bike are just to get her running before anything else.

Currently I have a used Points plate and advancer to install (Old ones were corroded and advancer seized). I'm also in the middle of tearing down the carbs (Will post another thread on some questions regarding the PD46).
Following that its a valve adjustment, compression test, oil change, spark check and attempt to turn it over.

I've learnt alot about the bike (primarily from this forum) and will have have some questions to post up on here soon!
Thank you for the patience and I look to gain further knowledge and insight from all of you.

Best,

Paul

Welcome,  I have the same bike and made my mistakes along the way.  After spending weeks fiddling with the carbs I found two of the idle jets were not seated all the way.  Today may be the best test ride yet.  Ron

Thank you all for the warm greetings.

I look forward to getting her started soon. These carbs could really do with some tlc.
