The cheapest bikes are the most expensive bikes.  Looks like a rust bucket, you can do better.

Yeah my 550 looked similar when I got it and it turned out to be not terrible. Idk. I figured with a clean title and for 150$ even if it sits a while why not?

You shoulda seen the chrome on bloo the day i brought her back.

It wasn't as bad as that wing, but with some elbow grease much of it wiped away.

Fun Fact; Metal Rescue is safe on chrome!  Fill a rubbermaid bucket with that and you'll be able to dip the rust away!

Bah!  Don't let them discourage you.  Buying a fully functional bike is no fun at all - if you're gonna do that might as well go down to the dealer.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and bet that bike was sitting in salt air at the coast for years...or did it get a bath from some storm surge?!  :o

Either way, you'll have some time put in going through and cleaning every electrical connection before any cosmetic details.

For a "buck & a 1/2" what the heck, it's one I would grab.  ;)

I really like those early Goldwings and considered buying one to fix up before I got my current 550 project.  Probably a good thing my storage space is limited because I'd buy one for $150, too.  Good luck!

+1 to that.
My cb550 was in worse shape than that when I first got it, yeah I spent more than it was worth getting it nice again but hearing it run for the first time in who knows how long was awesome. What year is that GL anyhow? When I got my 83 Interstate I got a 75 GL1000 as part of the deal, the 75 was missing a bunch of parts as well as no title but found out when selling it that early naked GL's are actually desired to many. I actually liked it but couldn't afford starting a new project bike so it went on CL for $200 and sold for $150 rather quickly.

You will need another 2 or 3 of those to get a runner.  I would throw that fish back in the pond.

lol I think the chrome is the only thing holding that rear fender together! Thanks for the tip. We'll see what's left after a dip.

I would have bought that too. Look, in NJ titles are gold. So I figure 150$ is a good investment. I guess first thing is see if it runs so a carb kit is in order. From there, well we'll see how it goes.

There is a neat article about the origins of the GL series in Motorcycle Classics Magazine July/Aug 2106.

Be prepared for that one because decent carb kits for early GL's aren't cheap, I found that out when rebuilding the carbs on my 1100. There are inexpensive kits available but a cheap quality kit is what you'll be getting.

Those $150 bikes are perfect for restorations. If you are going to tear the bike down to the last nut and bolt anyway you want a cheap initial investment, though there are limits. Now a days everyone who has a rotting heap thinks they have a Sand Cast or 69 H1, and they are looking for telephone numbers. I just bought my latest project,  a 76 550 in a little better shape than that GL for $650 and feel lucky to have found it. I would scoop up either of those $150 bikes in a second.

I'd snap it up if I ran across it, particularly a '75 which is the most powerful of the 1000's.

That said, it needs about $500 in parts just to be complete, much less running.
