A good find even for parts only. I bought one for $250 and spent a thousand on it before I rode it to Sturgis last year. Repaired the starter, frozen pedal, start relay, Michelin tires, brakes on both ends, M/C, timing belts, clean carbs, fuel filter, points, plugs, caps, fuel line, wiring, windjammer windshield, 85mph all day long. 15 hour days.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Bah!  Don't let them discourage you.  Buying a fully functional bike is no fun at all - if you're gonna do that might as well go down to the dealer.

+2!!

And the disease is not restricted to Hondas either!.......my latest $150 (with title) special....
I would have bought that too. Look, in NJ titles are gold. So I figure 150$ is a good investment. I guess first thing is see if it runs so a carb kit is in order. From there, well we'll see how it goes.
In co a title makes a totaled bike worth something

Be prepared for that one because decent carb kits for early GL's aren't cheap, I found that out when rebuilding the carbs on my 1100. There are inexpensive kits available but a cheap quality kit is what you'll be getting.
Or go for a single carb and do a rat chopper

I did look for it and did not see it. It's a pile of #$%* right now. I was telling my buddy it's like if you got a great deal on some hooker but in the morning realized how questionable the whole experience was and if she left any contamination in your room. My garage is just waiting for some sort of infestation. Half the harness is eaten... the engine is free. It's got to come down to bare frame so I can find and address the rust. I'm sure it has quite a bit. Unfortunately the front end is missing the calipers so that sucks. Here it is in my mess of a garage after I unloaded it.

And this is gross.

I was already looking at the solex conversion. I hate to go that route but the carbs are frozen solid. I'm sure I can get them free and clean them up but if it's anything like my 550 was the damage to the aluminum may be unrepairable. I am no newb to mouse urine vs soft metal.

That's not a sohc4!!!.....

It is a SOHC4.....a SOHC on each side and it's a 4!  ;)  ;D

Yeah my 550 looked similar when I got it and it turned out to be not terrible. Idk. I figured with a clean title and for 150$ even if it sits a while why not?

Nice find if you have the time and can supply some effort. Is that a first year Wing?
Yes it's a 1975. I admittedly know nothing about them.

1975?????.....That would make it a "sandcast" Goldwing!!!!

No kickstart lever.

Someone went down on it and I assume that's when it got parked. It's probably going to need a frame right side is all dented and left side is all rusted.

No doubt that's a handful of a project Steve. But we've all seen worse bikes than this on this forum brought back to life. Just depends how much money and time you want to put into it. A couple +'s right off the bat it has a title and the engine is free. What year of Wang is that 75,76, or 77. These early naked bikes are great bikes and worth saving. Ive got a black 77 GL1000 and love it.

I really don't like the term JUNK Steve. I don't think any of these old Honda's are that ;) some just need more TLC than others. Like Brewskey said we all do it. So here is my $50.00 project a original 1971 CB500 that's in pretty rough shape to. It had been sitting out side for a number of years and the motor was stuck. But I couldn't leave it there to rot away so I brought her home.

I only like the term junk because later on I can say, "when I got it, it was a pile of junk" lol. My problem is that I don't have a "slow setting" everything I do gets me overwhelmed which is when I work best. So then I go ahead and rush through certain things (not in a bad way) I'm still very careful. Rush may be the wrong word, but I'm trying to express how my projects take form. There is very little planning involved, and they mutate as the project progresses. I really want to make this a proper mileage eater. I currently use my 550 for that and it's great, but this can be better. I'll probably start taking it apart tonight or tomorrow. I need to see what I'm left with once everything is disassembled. I'm a welder, so I suppose I can repair most of the rust. Idk. I've never done a cycle frame.

Steve their is always this alternative if you didn't want to dive into a major project ride now. Ran across these on CL. Looks like these might be in your area. Other than seats, fairing, w/shield, backrest still original Wangs and probably need very little to be out and riding either one. Once you take one of these for a spin you want believe the comfort and smoothness especially after being use to your 550. They are big heavy bikes but they feel fairly nimbly out on the hwy where they really shine. And don't think they are a old grandma bike either you'll be surprised when you crank the throttle back how they go.

That sucks.  Only way to fix that kind of enzymatic deterioration is to blast it down to bare metal and hope there still enough meat on the bone!

I have to find the pictures of my corvair head.... in the meantime this happened tonight.

I filled the cylinders with pblaster. I was going to let it sit but guy who sold it to me obviously already rolled it in gear. It's got enough compression where it pulls quite a vacuum.

Here, this was after years of mice living under the fan on top of the right cylinder head. I'm still driving it like this daily.

Believe it or not the second pic is after days of soaking in blaster and then soda blasting it.

The cheapest bikes are the most expensive bikes.  Looks like a rust bucket, you can do better.

Full rebuild?

At least at some point someone loved this thing enough to put tapered bearings in. Frame isn't as rusted as I thought. The frame is dented where that crash bar was. Leave it alone? I suppose I could fill it with bronze and grind smooth.

How  bad is tge rust on the motor mount to right of oil filter.
To be honest as I viewed the last pics, I thought you were maybe thinking of not going ahead.
Not saying you should not,but clearly will be a lot of work..

The frame damage appears pretty substantial.  Are you sure the thing is straight?
Seem likely caused by lack of a steering damper  ;D
