Wiring question
« on: September 16, 2016, 09:46:40 AM »
So im wiring up a new start/kill switch on my 1979 cb650 and i redid a bit of the wiring so now im not sure how this switch wires up. http://www.thisoldtractor.com/moto_guzzi_tonti_handlebar_switch_-_k_s_12-0203.html This is a link to the switch with a diagram showing which wires do what. This shows six wires but I now only have 5 wires coming from the original harness now. 1 is a black wire which i ran from the new fuse panel I installed 2 is yellow/red coming from the main 30amp fuse coming off the battery 3 is a black/white wire coming from the spark units to the coils or vice versa 4 is a green/yellow wire which i believe to be the brake light/taillight switch and 5 a white/green wire which originally ran to fused power which it still does. There are 6 wires for the switch but I only have 5 coming from the harness am I missing something, maybe a ground? I know this might be hard without any pics but im wondering if anybody can shed some light on this for me. How do I go about wiring this switch up? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I'd check the BLK BL/WHT for continuity. Which end leads to harness Y/R?
Looks like Red/BLK - Red/WHT would map to stock BLK-BLK/WHT for power to the coils

The BRWN and GRN/WHT are listed as optional pass thru, so I'd imagine you could abandon them?

dont have it hooked up to any juice so i cant check for that. the wiring isn't done 100%. Which end leads to harness y/r? What do you mean by this? So red/black would go to power (fused black wire i installed) which would be the on position to start the bike? red/white to coil wire (black/white) which would kill the power when flipped to off? which wires from the harness go to the starter button (blue/white, black). brown and green/white would be for my tail light i guess which there are connections for on the brake perch which would be the green/yellow wire from the harness. But how about the white/green harness wire?

In your stock harness, GR/Y is for the brake switch, not power.
Y/R in your stock harness is the electric start switch. That maps to BLK/BL-WHT on the new switch.
You've got the coil power figured out.
