This is as good a time as any to let the cat out of the bag to you guys I suppose, although I'm not really going "public" with this for a few more weeks when I am better setup. Dave Gardner, the main representative for Ikon in the USA for many years has retired and shut down his operation. RestoCycle has taken the reins and in Mid October we will launch a new online web store selling (among other things) Ikon shock absorbers and springs.
I've used these on my last two builds and really like them - damping feels just right in combination with a RaceTech'ed fork, spring seems fine even for 220 lbs of me, and I really like the option of customizing the look of them with the different appearance options. They look very close to several of teh stock shock absorbers that were used on some of the motorcycles of the 70s and 80s - and even when they don't (FVQ anyone?), they look 'correct" to my eye, but are in fact a huge upgrade in performance. Quality and finishes are really good, and they are rebuildable.
In the Ikon product family, for a 750K, you have two choices: the 7610-1296 or the 7614-1296.
The 7610 is probably their most popular shock and can be purchased with several different appearance packages - chrome or black springs, chrome or black body, and with and without a chrome or black 'cover' at the top of the spring. The 7610 uses a steel body and a 3-position ramped collar setup for spring preload. Prices range from around $400 - $500 per pair for the 7610 model, plus shipping, depending on which options are chosen.
Hit this (UK) site for now and you can view the different appearance/trim combinations that are available for the 7610. Use the pull-down to customize the appearance view and pricing:
https://ikonshocks.co.uk/shop/7610-1296-2/These photos are all 7610, but with different eye/clevis, length, and appearance options to suit different motorcycles.
The 7614 has an aluminum body, is lighter as a result and uses a threaded collar for very fine-tuned preload adjustment. This model is only available with a natural aluminum body and a black spring, and no options for caps or different finishes. It is somewhat more expensive, roughly $600 a pair.
The damper in both units is identical, a twin-tube conventional gas-charged unit, and features 4-position rebound damping adjustment. Both are rebuildable.
The current US site (not mine!) appears to be undergoing maintenance, but I am hard at work developing a new US site right now, today in fact! And just as soon as my shipment gets off the boat in October and is trucked to RestoCycle's sprawling worldwide HQ, we will launch this venture and the web store a little more broadly and formally. But if I was going to break the news early to anyone, it would be you guys.
But even without the motherlode that is inbound, I can get a smaller order in hand inside of a week. So if you're interested in sending me the $5 bill I pin to the bulletin board as my first customer for this venture, shoot me a PM or an email to nils@restocycle.com, I'll help you with your selection and we will BOTH be in business. Or you can call: 520-308-3705. That will ring through to my mobile if I'm not at the shop so be patient while it rings.
