I am having a hell of a tough time getting the side cases off so I can get to the front sprocket. I need to change out my chain, and the bolts are not cooperating. I am afraid that if push it, I might end up stripping the heads. Short of buyinga set of impact tools, how can I get past this problem?

I swear by PB Blaster. Think of it as WD40 on steroids. This stuff breaks loose just about ANYTHING!!


Here's what I'd do:
1) PB Blaster
2) Impact driver (attach a socket and hit the other end with a hammer)
3) remove the bolt
4) be happy

Impact driver should be the first tool in any SOHC toolbox!

You definitely want to be able to get your covers off, so put an impact driver on your holiday list!

But, if you are desperate to get the new chain on NOW, you can simply pull the master link off your old chain, connect the new chain to it, then thread the new chain over the drive sprocket by pulling it through with the old chain.
