Issues Starting Bike: 81 CB650 (Electrical?)
« on: September 22, 2016, 01:28:04 pm »
I've developed a new issue with my bike and it seems to be electrical. I'll go to start the bike in the morning and it has plenty of power, headlight is bright, all lights come on, ect. When I press the starter button to crank the bike, the lights dim (which is supposed to happen as far as I can tell), and nothing else happens for a few seconds, then the bike will crank and fire up. I want to make clear that I'm pressing the starter button during the "nothing" period, and have to hold it to have the starter kick in up to 5 seconds later. The strange thing is, when the bike is warm, this is less of an issue. The bike will either fire right up, or the delay will be noticeably shorter.

Any idea on this one? I've done basically no electrical work on this bike, and am a complete noob when it comes to electrical in general, so I'm looking at extremely deep water on this little hiccup if its electrical related. Which I'm sure it is knowing my luck...

It could be the starter solenoid, but clean all the contacts in that circuit first.
