A couple LED tail light questions for those running them
« on: September 21, 2016, 09:22:03 am »
I am going to be running an aftermarket tail light from an early CB750 (the smaller one off the K0 etc)
Anyway, I will be taking some material off the lens to make it fit the space I have to use.  So... a normal 1157 tail light bulb would be a bit too tall.   If I had the bulb too close to the lens, it will melt/warp it with the heat.   LEDs don't put out the heat that a normal bulb does, so I hoping that would help.   I'd also hope to find an LED that is shorter than a regular 1157 bulb.

Anybody have a particular brand or type that they've used that might fit the bill ?   maybe an actual photo of the bulb with some sort of reference to the dimensions ?
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

You can prob find a LED bulb to fit and I've purchased a lot of bulbs from superbrightleds - my whole 750 is LED. But for taillight brightness you can't beat an actual LED unit vs. a replacement LED bulb for an incandescent light. For taillights the LED bulbs just didn't put out enough brightness for me, same for my turn signals. Fine for my gauges and idiot lights.

I picked up one of these and have been using it for a year in my 69' tail light and it works pretty good. It has all its dimensions on the specifications tab
