Wearing of gloves to become compulsory in France
« on: September 23, 2016, 09:23:35 AM »
A new law to come into effect in November will make the wearing of gloves compulsory for both drivers and passengers of motorcycles, three wheelers and quads.

This from an English website : http://www.morebikes.co.uk/france-makes-gloves-compulsory-for-riders-and-pillions/

The French motor cyclist's action group FFMC are none too happy, saying riders and passengers should be encouraged, not forced. As it's a no brainer for me, I don't have a problem with it, except what might be next ? ?

What do you think ?

Yep, give 'em an inch and they take a mile........'cept in their case, "give 'em a millimeter and they take a kilometer".  :o
Should be choice, not a law.

every time I see a law like this, I wonder what got pork-barreled in with it to make it pass.

because certainly, the law makers have more important plans to lay than....gloves for motorcyclists

Another trample on individual rights.  But, I'm sure those that passed the law got a nice kick-back from the glove manufacturers.

Au revoir to your liberties, Kev...  :'(

Frankly Cal, I'm getting a bit tired of every aspect of life in France being regulated. Maybe it's just the rebel Irish in me . .

Anyone else find it strange that liberal governments inflict more stupid laws and turn their backs on the important things?

will they enforce the law though kev ?. there is a law about having large reflective stickers on your crash helmet that the police dont seem to bother about .
i am more bothered about the law which stops vehicles over 7 years old entering paris . i would hate this to catch on .

I'm with you there Simon, that 7 year rule is bad news. France does have a lot of new laws that come and go, helmet stickers, hi viz vests had to be worn one year, carried now, then there's the spare bulbs and breathalyser you had to (still have to?) carry. I think last year they said no wearing headphones while riding. There's also been something about GPS's must have the speed camera warnings turned off. But as you say, none of it is enforced, I ride over there 2 or 3 times a year and it's still a great place for biking and the people are really friendly to bikers.

Is it law to wear proper protective clothing too Kev? Only reason I ask, this summer I've seen a lot of blokes (fckn idiots) riding around wearing T-shirts and shorts, helmet and gloves - like they've made a decision that they value their knuckles over their elbows and kneecaps?

Not that I'm decrying personal choice - wouldn't want the 'glove law' over here - just curious if there is some 'hierarchy of body parts' that the French government feel should have priority over others.

No Martin, there are no other regulations, that I know of. The trouble with all these clever laws is that while they may not be actively enforced, the coppers have the potential to do you for a rake of things if you do get stopped for a routine check. And there are lots of such checks these days.

Well all French should be protected from all the little bugs that used to hit their hands while riding, non?

Hey Simon,

Come on over and we can do the Corniche des CĂ©vennes together. I'll have the RC30 ready, but it will be a distant memory for you as I get it wound up and zoom into the distance.

Seriously, I agree, France is bloody good for biking. And your health, and for fit women, and the cheese, and the wine, and the 35 hour week etc etc

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Kev didn't you say you had 3 years to go before retirement if that's true you can do that on your head, then who gives a #$%* what laws they have, move to Monaco and open Kev's Cut rate Bikini Shop "personal fittings our speciality" and motorcycle tours of the harbor You should get a superior type of customer there with it's proximity to Italy and money in the background.
