Hey Scott.... After you got the lag sorted out.... what is your take on the Speedhut tach/speedo combo?

I really like the look and simplicity of those.

It's really nice. The filter Speedhut sent cured the lag. Installation of the gauge is reasonably simple. I have the hot start feature wired up but sometimesit still takes a few seconds or a hundred yards or so to acquire the signal. The turn signal indicators are hard to see in full sunlight. Overall, big thumbs up. And Speedhut was a pleasure to deal with, everyone involved.

Slip a bikini fairing over to shade the gauges and it would help give you visibility of the lamps...feedback to Speedhut might yield a mod to future models or revision on later models to yield a light sensitive indicator where it is dimmed at night and blazing bright in strong light settings.  Photosensor and some  circuitry could choose alternate or multiple leds to illuminate as long as it was not a liquid crystal display doing the illumination.

Love the clean look, surprised Honda didn't use a scheme like the silver and blue in US market..

There are actually settings to change the intensity of the backlighting for both day and night. It's just the tiny green LED turn indicators that are hard to see in bright sunlight.

What about the signals themselves, visible in sunlight? Man that's what I dislike about a lot of the stuff available, I use arm signals all the time also. I was following a friend one time who had changed to aftermarket tail light business. It was dangerous, brake & signal in the same tail light.

Yes, signals are fine. I can easily see the left side. The master cylinder reservoir partially blocks the right.

Whose build used the blaze pin signals tucked under the front corners of the tank.  Very bright and visible as long as angle  of point of view was obscured by trees, etc.  Wish the stator was a high output with plenty of headroom for accessories and more lights for a improved light footprint to make bike more visible.  Power transitors can be used as long as they aren't greedy on power...  but you have to pay for it one way or another...

Discussin for another place.

Swapped out the aftermarket mirrors for genuine Honda. MUCH better as far as vibration, and the actually sit lower and slightly wider, which really cleans up the lines too, IMO.

Also added a little HRC "bling".

Just love the way it turned out, if I do say so myself.

A fun one to enjoy...just have to scoot over to the Smokies to enjoy the cool mountain air and trees and wildlife, except for the bears...they are not fun to be around while on two wheels...not knowing what they will do.

The Baren Napoleon mirrors are nice lo/no vibration mirrors with coated optics, the stock Honda stuff of the day really had many design features that were built in which makes them the way to go when replacing parts.  Now if we could get them to make all the length cables or mirror designs or other parts like a boutique builder it could be a treat.  A custom shop at your beckon call, guess we would need to be rich too.

you may say so!
don't know if you noticed but i'm using the stock mirrors, too and am happy with them. i found some little rubber bushings that reduce vibrations even further, keeping them more clear at high speeds.

Fezzler swung by today to show off his newly completed '78. Darn thing runs super fine considering it was locked up tight just a few months ago. Really nice running and riding bike.

We rode up to the local Harley dealer. They were having "Hogs and Dogs"; an animal rescue benefit and hot dog cook out. We got to see some sweet pooches, checked out the show room, ate a hot dog and I saw more than a few "Pirates" checking out our vintage Japanese iron!

#1. The acceleration Scott's bike has is very impressive.

#2. His pipes sound even better than they look.  Like the kids say, they sound AWESOME!
A set of Rinehart Racing pipes would have nothing on those bad boys.  Perfection.

Only thing it would need in future is an even bigger displacement faster motor, few suspension improvements and a nice fresh set of sticky rubber.
Could be a fun one to hang onto...

It's already got an R6 front end, iKon shocks and Avon rubber. I can't drag a knee, so that's plenty for me.

The motor runs great. I've done a CB650 swap before, but it just lost something, to me. It was faster, yeah. And if I went that route again, I'd lose the exhaust (head pipes are too small for the 650 exhaust ports).
Even with all the work, the VF500 Interceptor is faster. And my 500+ lb. Tiger would walk away from both of them without even breathing hard.
I'm at the point where I don't feel like chasing ultimate performance out of 45 year old machinery. I enjoy them for the ride, the look, the experience and the joy of working on them. Any clapped out, $1500 Ninja on Craigslist would outperform them.

Yanking your chain Scott, on suspension as I could clearly see the overperforming R6 dual caliper setup.  One dual opposed early R6      design is enough...  I have a pair of quad piston fz6 calipers waiting .  They say anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right? ;)
I didn't realize that you have the Ikons, I had forgotten that.
Never had Avons, the BT45s I have been using are great, but apparently the Avons are a notch above.
Yes, it is quite true these bikes are easily eclipsed by so many modern or not so modern bikes.  Heck their may even be a modern MaxiScooter that can outperform them.  The Burgman is a pretty nice handling scooter but I prefer a tank between my legs when cornering.

Your motor is no slouch.

It is good knowing and accepting the limitations of your bike. Trying to make it something it is not or not easily capable of achieving can be a huge investment in time and money and can lead to disappointment.  A nice restomod is my idea of a great bike.  I intend to ultimately go FunJimmy's iteration/route with the R6/FZ06 path of front-end.
A blend of the old with newer tech leviatates the bike to the next level.

I love the flow of your pipes, I am sure you are happy with the investment and enjoyment they give you everytime you twist the wrist.

You have built a very nice and unique bike.  Do get it appraised to have it insured appropriately with no fight from the insurance company.  Some start trying to be weasels when you have a claim.

Forgot to mention, the FZ06 calipers went to a quad piston design that bolts up to the R6 fork legs.  The FZ06 adopted the R6 forks after the R6 went to USD forks ...  so, you have that option if you wish to pursue that./adopted the R6 USD fork after several years with the R6 last iteration of forks.  The difference is the top triples are setup for handlebars...out of the box.
The adopted redesigned USD forks and same previous design twin piston caliper then went to the quad caliper which were  a direct bolt up on the USD forks or the original RSU R6/FZ06 forks.

If you are interested in even more insane stopping power and you have the twin piston caliper design you can use the quad piston design.
