Backyard finds: 2 CB750s
« on: January 25, 2017, 11:20:57 pm »
I recently found a 1972 CB750 that was on craigslist for about 2 weeks.  The price was okay but what got me was the low mileage.  The bike only had about 5,000 miles.  I talked with the owner several times and ended up buying the bike.  One of the drawback was that the top right exhaust had some rust damage.  As you guys are well aware, the original 4 into 4 exhausts are hard to find and expensive when you do find them.  The bike was otherwise in good condition with a rust free tank and fairly decent paint job though it was faded.  That same week I looked through the internet for a parts bike where the exhaust was in good condition.  It took about a week, but I finally found a parts bike in Alabama, so I contacted the seller.  This bike also had about 5,000 miles and the exhaust was in good condition.  The bike was finally delivered on this past Sunday.  I was in New York for a birthday party and arrived today in California and saw the parts bike for the first time in person.  One of the first things that  I noticed was that the bike from Alabama had floor boards.  I've never seen floor boards on a CB750 before.  Does anyone have any information on these floor boards?

Thanks.  That was a quick response.   Are these Triple A accessories bolt ons?   Also the previous owner placed rear side trunks as well.   I don't think I'm keeping any of these parts on the bike.

There is a set / kit  of what appears to be brand new floor boards on Ebay for a CB500.  The stuff is out there, but rare.

Your brown 72 is actually a 1971 which is a good thing but should take HM300 pipes not HM341 which is probably on the parts bike. Check for a stamped number on the pipes. If the title says 1972 it is because that was the year it was probably sold. Looks like a nice find.
If you ever decide to sell off any spare unused pipes let me know as I am looking like everybody else for a couple of cylinder #2 pipes in HM341.

thanks Ekpent.  I appreciate the info.  I'm starting to get back into the SOHC bikes.  I go back and fourth between the DOHC 900F and 1100F hondas and the SOHC CB750K models depending on what I find to buy.  Currently I have 3 CB1100F bikes for sale and two CB900F that I'm trying to sell.

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Its a good thing that your bad pipe is on the right side. They are easier to come by than the left side pipes.

Under the bed...i'll have to keep that in mind.  The shop attic is almost full.  I wonder if the wife minds if  I store bike parts with the sweaters?   ; d

Am I wrong to think that Triple A products came out of Australia ?? Not sure if that is the same company that made those rounded mesh air filters with foam and metal screens that fit in pairs that I saw on here recently.

Sweet find, I've been having a poke around for CB 750 compatible floorboards for my chop project...

Ekpent I think they ended up deciding the air filters were made by a company called alphabet... might be the same company for all I know  ;D

Ah yes that is the name of those filters I had once made in Australia. Different companies then, thanks .
