Whew, finally caught up with ya, on this build. I am getting anxious to see more, but I know things take time and you have the "Life things" to deal with as well. Really an awesome build going here and your Girlfriend will have Quite The Ride as well.  ;)

Those connectors (and the new sheathing) are beautiful. The only downside is that they are reliant on old wires.

So hi......long time no update!

Life stuff caught up with us.  Hollidays, long hours a at work, money...the usual life things.  At this point in time i have prepped the first tank for primer.  Minor body work was done to take care of a few small dents.  I have it in primer and just waiting for a final sand to minimize any other imperfections.  Our side covers are still in good shape, so they just got the stickers pulle doff and scuffed up ready to paint.

The first tank is going back to the same maroon, or at least very close to the same stock color that came on it.  Candy Antares Red was the name..so we're pretty excited to see it back to its lovely stock color.

ALSO.....we've been in contact with Cognito, assuming most everyone on this forum knows who they are.  After tomorrow we should have a full GSXR front end ordered up for the 400.  I'm not going to go into details, but we're both really excited.  We decided to go with one of their kits for simplicity sake.  I will literally be able to just bolt it together and go.  While i appreciate how some on this forum have built their own front ends from scratch.  Pieced them together using different year parts and machined they're own brackets and steering stems.....I just dont think that will do this motorcycle justice when its completed.

Looking forward to be back on this motorcycle build and moving forward!

Well then you ought to be upgrading the rear hub to Devin's new matching disc hub! Just off the mill, gsxr disc compatible, comes with bracket, you supply the Brembo P32/34 caliper. Uses your cush drive and axle.

Sooooooo......that is freaking fantastic.  Message to follow.

Fabulous.  Absolutly epic.  Devin was a huge help in putting together the front end kit for the 400.  Guess he will be getting yet another email from me!

Thanks for the info good sir!

Devin is one of those guys that you just say, "Shut up and take my money!"

FYI - he has a nice feature (actually 2) in the latest issue of Cafe Racer Magazine.

We used SP995 cast aluminum for the engine and other bits.  We sprayed out some of the 127 but it just didnt do it for us color wise!

Thank you for the kind words, means a lot!  Should have some moinor updates here in the next few days.  Got some more stuff in the mail.

I do have a question.  I'm currently taking apart the carbs, and im slightly stuck.  I'm wondering if these are just pressed in and can be popped apart or is there a fancy trick to separating them?

Remove the carb top and you'll see how they are held in, one bolt.  Larry

Just take lots of pictures and use the explode schematics available at cmsnl.com

you will be fine  ;D

The last probably 40 photos or so on my iPads camera roll is just carbs haha.  If there is one thing I've learned over time with automobiles and motorcycles, the more photos you have the better off you are.

Thanks for the link to the schematics, that is fantastic.

Be very gentle with the tubes between carbs, if broken you will kick yourself as it is difficult to find replacements or you will have to make one.

They have been a huge help to me, I printed out all 16 diagrams for my bike. I typically use that site to get the part numbers then search them on Partzilla since they are US based and have most of the stuff.

Noted.  Mine appear to be in pretty good shape.  They're not hard or crunchy at all.

Hi guys, just had a quick read. Looks like a decent job.
I recently purchased a 1977 400-4 "basket case" and I mean a real "basket case" So for me your rebuild is an interesting read.
Probably won't start on mine until later in the year when the wife goes on hols.(need to finidh the Guzzi first) (she has no idea what is hidden in my shed)
My only question is the paint. I have used HiTemp paint in the past with no issues. However!!!! have you ever used the HiTemp clear lacquer. I've tried 2-3 different brands and no matter how long you bake or at what temp the bloody stuff won't cure.
Any idea's?

Well I have to be doing something wrong.
But yes have been using same brands, out of frustration even used odd paint to lacquer just to try and get a finish.
And this stuff ain't cheap.
I am going to have a yarn with my local guy later in the week.
No doubt he'll have a good laugh. Strange bloke! likes it when I'm suffering.
Wonder if all spray painters are the same!!!!!!

Thanks for the prompt reply.

He's probably correct.  Odds are something you sprayed under the clear is whats causing it not to cure.  Be sure to check labels, they generally tell you what you can spray before and after each specific product.

What were you spraying a hi-temp clear laquer over if you dont mind me asking?

And don't forget to remove the tape. They'll never run right clogged up like that  ;) ;D

Removing the tape is the worst part lol

you know for such a small part of the motorcycle, sure takes up a lot of space on the table lol
