Other Projects
« on: June 02, 2005, 04:27:11 PM »
Thought it might be interesting to see what other projects we're all working on.

I've got two, both kind of related.  Last fall I rebuilt my garage.  I wasn't about to have my newly acquired CB550F sit in my damp leaky garage for a Toronto winter, so I spent a week with my brother (from Winnipeg - rides a late 70's BMW) rebuilding.  If you look closely at the picture with my car (Honda of course), you'll note the car is level - I'm not holding the camera funny  ::)

Garage rebuild pics (might be of interest/use to those doing something similar):

I am also rebuilding a 1971 Motobecane moped for my wife.  Of course it is also orange.

Good topic.

bike projects:

1. '70 Triumph= needs paint and assembly. Almost there!
2. '70 Kawasaki Trail Boss.= a cheap dirt bike for Mrs. Rivers to ride around the California deserts. Carb cleaned and tuned. Just needs shocks to complete.
3. '71 CB500K. Needs cosmetics and the usual=(carb clean/fluid change, etc) needed for a bike that's been sitting for 15 years.

Not bike related:

125 Gallon, tropical saltwater aqaurium:

Always needs work and maintance, even after 8 years of running.  Just completed ungrading the lighting system to simulate sunrise and sunset with moonlight. 8)

Now, I just need to upgrade the protein skimmer (its a filter) to complete the entire upgrade.

The inventory of the garage and the shed

1.  1948 BSA 600cc M21.  Brought the bike back from the West Indies where I was working in the mid 70's.  Left it in the shed for about 4 years and then restored it.
2.  1938 Indian Chief.  This is the original field find.  Located in southern Saskatchewan, bought for $ 15.00 (bike was scattered all over the farm).  Still gathering parts for this one but is now a roller.
3.  1981 XT 550 Yamaha. Used to ride around on the logging trails near home.
4.  1976 Supersport.  Saved the best for last.  Picked up 20 years ago in rough shape, restored little by little over the years.  Could not be happier.
5.  The newest addition may be just around the next corner.

I don't want it to go like a motorcycle, I want it to go like a rocket!

Here's my current project. A new alcove in our Family Room!  I have cut out a thermalite block wall, put in a lintel, rewired, and layed bricks.  Now only have to install arch, plaster, put up shelves and buy new TV, stereo etc to fit.

The bikes are in the garage - they're fine (just as well...)

About 2 years ago I finished a '59 morris Minor Traveler; new wood, new floor, front disks, 1275 engine, good tires, etc. Finally sold it for a huge loss.
-Just restored a Steib S500. Thought I'd save some money by doing that rather than get a new/repro one. Please God- when will I ever learn?!
-The S500 is now on a /2 conversion w R100 engine and one front disk, large tank and Denfield solo seat. That bike took 4 years.
-My 400/4 I got by trading a TR500.
-'79 Guzzi G5 (850) #$%*in cafe racer with alloy tank, all red frame. You don't even have to ride it- just listen to it. Again too much work and money and the rear main STILL DRIPS.
-'82 BMW R65LS; only bike I ever bought new. Now with 85K and runs like a Singer. Looks good too. My cow pony bike.
-'90 GB500; one of the most fun, best handling bikes for the mountains you could ever want. Not as quick as an SR500, but I like the ergos better.
-'48 Indian Chief. After I got hit by a car (external fixator for 9 months on leg), it's now the bobber I always secretly wanted. The rear fender is from a Guzzi El Dorado.

I've promised myself NO MORE PROJECTS ! DAMN IT! I don't make much money. The garage needs painting. The back yard... I keep thinking about different headers so I can put a Brooklands muffler and racing fairing on the GB (after 6 anesthesias, I forget nouns sometimes, but you know the kind of fairing I mean).  I'm also thinking a different tank (alloy custom?) and seat would look good on the 400.  I'm addicted. Maybe I need to look in yahoo for a support group.
