Topic: 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado

I recently picked up this 1974 Eldorado popped up, with just under 25k miles.

It was being sold by the original owner's nephew, and even has the original PA title, which he kept when he got it transferred into his name after  his uncle passed.

The big ugly fairing has already be removed, but, I'm thinking that I'll refurbish the bags and keep them.   The lights even work!

It will, of course, need the chrome bore cylinders replaced or re-plated, and will need new exhaust.

After removing the hideous fairing and bags.   The bags I'll keep, as they're pretty cool, but, they need to be painted.   I'm thinking black with white pinstripes to match the bike.

The pinstriping and logos are pretty worn, but, I'm not going to touch them.   They're only original once.

Nice score Jay.  Looks to be in really good, original cond and much better with that ugly fairing off! Consider painting the bags black, would look much cleaner.

My buddy has a '75 Guzzi that I always admire when I see it.

Maybe one day I will have one!

I am planning on painting the bags black, and pin striping them to match/complement the bike

Don't think I've ever seen one of those before, perhaps not available in the UK unless I missed it - the 70's were a fuzzy era for me!

I like it. At the risk of sounding sacrilegious, looks ripe for the cafe treatment to me.

Thanks for posting that link, some nice looking bikes there. Always liked Guzzis but clearly not an aficionado! If I'm ever in the market for one, now I know what to look for!

I'm not real familiar with the the spine-frame bikes, other than knowing I really like the way that they look.

Probably the best place to learn about them is http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/, which is a forum dedicated to the V11 Sport models.

And, of course, there is http://wildguzzi.com/.

I do know that the earlier ones had a single-plate clutch that was problematic, and that a multi-plate conversion is the way to go.

The Guzzi V11 Sport is a good bit heavier than your S2R, and, not quite as fast, but, still very rewarding to ride.    There is just something about a Guzzi

Speed is not an issue for me as I don't ride what I have close to it's potential. Yup, the V11 pushes 500 pounds and if I read correctly it had a mono plate in 2002.

I've been watching the ad and the bike is priced fair, low miles, original owner. Don't see many around my area. Speaking of area I would guess this would be an out of area sale. Majority here would shy away or think it's ugly. I have only seen one other Ducati (rough) over the last two years although some might be sitting in a garage.

It is possible that the mono-plate clutch may have already been replaced.

There are many different versions of the V11, some with larger, frame-mounted fairings, some with just a headlight cowl, some naked.

One I'm partial too is the Copa Italia.


The V11 LeMans has the full fairing (other variants might as well, I'm not real knowledgeable on these):


Many models of the V11 have Ohlins suspension from the factory, including the Copa Italia, Cafe Sport, and Nero Corsa to name a few.

Can't answer Jay, never called him. At least not yet. 

10k on bike, service and parts books, factory race exhaust is all the ad states. Needs S100 treatment on the motor and a good detail. (Just me) Asking $3750. Low book $2800, high book $4000.

I don't need another motorcycle but we know how that goes. Would be a nice 68 TH birthday present.

The asking price is in the ballpark of what I typically see on these.   You could probably pick it up for a little less but, even at asking price it is fair deal, and a price you should be able to get back out of it when you're ready to move on.

Mileage is low for the year, which is also good.

I don't know the vintage British bikes too well, other than they all seem to leak oil. 

I don't have any Triumphs, but, I'd love to have the new Thruxton R!

Re interceptor is known as more durable, dependable, and oil tight than a bonneville and strong performer, also rarer...no idea whether they command that much money.

Hmmmm, I didn't know that.    Thanks for educating me!

Certainly with today's models, the opposite is true.   Triumph has top notch quality, while, Royal Endfield, while improving, has a long way to go.
