new bar switches
« on: October 02, 2016, 02:31:23 PM »
On a 1976 750k I bought new bar switches from vintagecb.com the right hand side has the extra on/off that I think was for the head light the vintage cb web site says it works on my year but I cant seem to get the start button to activate the solenoid.
The new one has 6 wires and the old switch had 5 wires, the black/white and black power the points with the off/run/off .  yellow/red and green/red go to the solenoid but it does not have a 2nd black wire for power .

Im hoping someone has bought the new switches and can help  Thanks

Not familiar with the switch and I bought the correct Honda one, as they are still available new from Honda. I did contact them (Vintage CB) at one point for measurements on the wire length and found the wiring was too short compared to the correct Honda OEM.

The white/black and black wire are off the kill switch part of the switch on the Honda one and just interrupt or complete that circuit. The start button uses the yellow/red I believe and will check that for you tomorrow. The black wire should be 12V hot and if you need a second one then split the lead for another hot wire.

You have only listed four wires colour wise and if the new switch has 6 then what are the other two wire colours? Usually points use a solid yellow and solid blue in the points circuit in Honda colour schemes.

Common sense.....isn't so common!

Thanks for the reply the other 2 wires brown/white and black/red they control the head light switch that is not used on a 76.
Maybe I should have bought a new Honda one also it is a nice piece and the wires are plenty long for my superbike bars.

will keep trying, jumping any black to the yellow/red makes the starter go just need it to go through the start button.
