Now I'm getting pissed off. (Wrong thread ??) I decided to check exactly is now required of me in the Glove department and found this : http://moto-securite.fr/gants-obligatoires/

Now while I have an excellent pair of gloves, armoured with lots of kevlar and studs etc, they don't have a CE sticker, so they don't conform to the law. So I need to buy new gloves.

I'm moving to Donetsk where there are no laws.

Kev

This is what happens when you invite government violence into your life. You are a subject, not a free man who can safely choose his own level of risk management to suit his own specific life situation and tolerance for risk, becasue not complying means if government catches you not submiting and obeying you have a 100% chance of being caged or killed. Now the government is here to "help" you with motorcycle safety gear and may in fact put you in a situation where you end up with gloves that offer less protection. Perhaps because of budgetary constraints or any number of reasons. The manufacturer of your gloves did not pay to get them CE certified, a process that no doubt lines the pockets of government goons directly or indirectly (lobbying) and may or may not offer value to an individual. Be angry and vocal against government intrusion into private lives, it doesn't stop at gloves.

Hey Dunk, thanks for the message of support. I'm probably not quite getting the entire gist of it as I'm just back from the Indian restaurant where I had a raging hot curry with some hallucinatory peppers. And some wine.  Well, somewhat more than "some".

While dining on fine fare, and chatting with a lady from Leicester, I decided to go in to business manufacturing "CE" stickers. I will presently contract with a factory in Bangladesh to run up a few thousand. Then Brent, Bill, Simon and I will set up shop on the splendid streets of Monte Carlo, retro fitting conformity to every item of apparel in the EU. And gorging on the young Russian women who frequent the casino there.

Gravy train I hear.

$3.4 million usd worldwide Terry.  I know its a raindrop in the financial ocean.  But my hat goes off to the 2 riders in Suzhou China who raised $8 - seriously.

Excellent, I saw that too, and being the sceptic I am, I immediately wondered how much of that will actually make it's way to the needy, do you know?

I remember reading about the various charities and what percentage of money raised actually goes to the needy, and was pretty pissed off, I don't know if things have changed, but the only two charities back then that passed on 100% of money raised was the Lions Club and Rotary, I hope the DGR is more like them, and less like most "mainstream" charities........... Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Without wanting to hurt Kev's new CE sticker business venture, I reckon that if the French government wants everyone to wear CE approved gloves, then the French government should supply them. Maybe Kev could win the contract to supply the Frogs "CE Approved" gloves............. ;D

I vote in favor of government sponsored rider safety gear!

I wish my health insurance would pay for "Cycle-Therapy" too!

Government sponsored safety gear? I hope not. We'd all be riding around in day-glo.

If the government over here want to deter folks from biking, all they need to do is pass a law that all bike seats must have a photo of our prime minister's face on them. Nobody's going to want to sit on that.

Hey we're talking about France Martin, the style capital of the world, not Pommyland where they'd probably make you wear a tweed jacket and a Bobby's helmet,  (although you wouldn't have to dress up for the DGR, or Gay Mardi Gras) so give the Frogs a chance I say, especially if they give Kev the job of supplying those genuine CE approved hand protectors........ ;D
