Good news on buying it back!
If it were me, I'd pull the engine and strip the frame down to bare metal.  That will let you see if there are cracks, folds or dangerous bends in the metal.  Remember that we have a member here who sells frame kits that more easily allow you to remove an engine.  So if you find damage on one of the top tubes, you might just want to use Frank's kit to replace that section of bar anyway.

That took a pretty hard hit..., might be able to get a reasonable replacement frame.

You can take measurements from each side of the frame front to rear and also downward to see if there s evidence of twist. If there is doubt, replace the frame.

Thanks for all the input, I think I'll take it down to bare metal and inspect it thoroughly. Then get the measuring tape out and make sure it's square. This will be a slow process, build my dream bike over time.

Here are some recent purchases, I'm still looking for a front wheel. My plan is to source all the damaged components. Then once everything is together I will be refinishing everything. I'm stupidly excited about the Allen head cover bolt kit, it's the little things haha.

The forks I ordered were for a 78F, The eBay add said they were for a K. I didn't know enough at first glance haha. So I'm having cycle X build me some new front forks with -2 tubes. Going to start disassembling the bike and refinishing everything.

The 450 finally arrived, i'm going to finish that one up first. First thing get rid of the blue haha.

That's the plan. I couldn't bring myself to let it go. Disassembly starts in the next few days, Strip the frame and scrutinize it for cracks. The plan is to refinished piece by piece and reassemble, I envision a naked cafe CR.

More parts arrived today. Everything to rebuild the trashed front forks. I went with CycleX, the customer service over there is amazing. They set me up with used sliders, they blasted them for me and assembled with new 2" shorter tubes. I went with progressive springs, had i known what I know now I would not have gone that route. I did research after my order haha. But it is what it is and it will have to suffice, at least for now. I also went with one of their trees, it is a nice peace and it will fit with the bare metal theme of the bike. Last is a new wheel, bearings and spokes.

I can't wait to see this thing start to take shape!
