Cb550f top end clicking and dying
« on: October 06, 2016, 05:05:48 PM »
Hey everyone, I have a cb550f with 4-1 exhaust, pod filters with carbs jetted for them, also have a full Duma ignition. Anyways I have had this bike for around 6 months, bought it with 19k miles on it and put about 3k on it so far. I notice that the cam chain was rattling around in the engine and the tensioner was seized on it so I was unable to adjust it. After riding around a few times with a loose cam chain the bike started bogging down and dying. It wouldn't stay lit under 5k rpm. So I decided to do a top end rebuild and replace the cam chain tensioner. Also decided to drop in a cb650 cam while I was at it... why not. So just finished up the top end and went to fire it up. It took a few minutes to get it started but it fire up and was running. After a few minutes of running I noticed a clicking/tapping coming from the top end. Was not quite sure what it was so took it up and down the street and it did the same exact thing it did before the build. Started dying after a few min of running. Also I have checked all the wiring and everything is good. Battery and charging system were checked and are in working order. Anyone have any insight in to what might be the problem? Any help is much appreciated!!
