RC eng. 836 pistons
« on: October 09, 2016, 08:40:03 AM »
I was at a vintage sled swap meet yesterday and came across a set of used RC eng. 836 pistons. The fellow said that they were the 12 to 1 comp. type.
Sorry to say but i passed on them. Now i am thinking that maybe i should of bought them home.
Question are these a desirable set or not ?

I thought that what i would here. $100.00 was the asking price. I think that with a little investigating i can find him.
I have no use for them now,but with a few projects ahead maybe i will do a 836.

Wonder if you can still get rings for them.

I don't know, I am kinda new to this SOHC thing. The set had rings 3 per piston and he said with had low run time as he prefered the 10to1 type better.
I put some feelers out there maybe i will find him.

Those would get you 900/900+ type HP without the expense of all the additional expensive cylinder sleeve work but you have to be more careful with the cam selection and top end work due to the larger piston crowns. Kinda depends on your use of the bike afterwards. Road bike - probably not. City bar hopper, street drags or strip - good choice.

Just cut the tops down to lower the compression a bit.

I love it. You guys are building me a engine already. So is this piston set worth the $100 asking price? Or is it a "no brainer".

My RC 836 were forged with teflon plugs instead of clips.
Same ring sizes as my Action Fours cast that is said to use Honda CB350 twin +1mm rings.(65mm)
My NOS RC836 purchased 2012 on eBay that were of older date, cast with 1 piece oil rings have same ring sizes.
I used my old 3-piece oil rings (used max 8000 km's) from the forged RC836.
All my 836 pistons had CR 10.25/10.5:1

I've got the same slugs in an engine with an Andrews cam. Nice to know there may be rings to fit if ever needed.
