400F: The only bike I took pics of at Barber this year
« on: October 09, 2016, 05:23:53 PM »
Usually, I take dozens and dozens of pics. This year, this was the ONLY bike that inspired me enough to take pics of. A simply amazingly well done 400F. I spoke to the owner very briefly and didn't get any details, other than that the tach is an HRC replica. One of his buddies said the bike "goes as good as it looks!".
 Stunning bike.

This was easily the best bike I saw all weekend. I know that is hard to believe but the whole package was there and I didn't see one thing I would change in executing any of the mods. Weather did not hold anyone back and I'm sure it was a record crowd. The problem now is that the show is too big for itself. There isn't enough parking or camping for the amount of people coming through there.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Did you or any of the other members that went find any really nice Hypo or other cool parts at the swap meet that you would like to share with us couch potatoes.

There was a set of Marchesi rims for a 750F for $400. A front Lester for $200 (almost went back and made an offer on that one). A set of Henry Abe's they were "taking bids on".
I got some great deals on 350 twin parts for my other projects, a set of genuine 400F bars for $25, a set of NICE 550 carbs with chrome bowls, polished tops and two spare bodies for $60, a full Honda tool kit for the 350 for $5, lots of random "littles".....keys, rubber bits, etc.

On the 400: I talked to the owner for just two seconds. All the info I got was about the tach. Those are Campagnolo rims and Marzocchi forks.
Every detail on this bike was tasteful and subtle and just "right", IMO.

I didnt have near the luck as Scott S did at the swap meet. I picked up a set of aftermarket disc carriers with the same bolt pattern as a CB that I might try to use for something down the road. I dud see a nice set of EPM wheels for a BMW for $500. If they had been for a chain drive bike they would be mine. Beyond that, I did not see a since CB hop-up part at the whole show.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Oh, I'm sure there was plenty of 750 stuff. My eyes were mostly peeled for 550 and 350 twin stuff....and any random great deal.

Weren't there any awesome vintage race bikes?  I've been dying to get over there, maybe next year.

I did get a chance to go over the Bimota HB1 bike a few times over the weekend. There are a lot of great details, but a number of things that weren't my style and turned me off a bit. The 400F was flawless. If I had to critique anything, it would be the rear master cylinder reservoir. It was a billet square unit and didn't fit the rest of the build. That is hardly a reason not to love the rest of the package, which was very well executed.

Vintage race bikes were premium as always. My personal favorites are Kenny Cummings' NYC Norton bikes. The Seeley frames and alloy tanks are functional art in its highest form. Each piece is crafted so well, its hard to believe they are race bikes at all, but the performance of each machine doesn't lie. Some of the home built machines were impressive as well, with tons of details that are easy to miss but solve problems inherent in racing in new and creative ways. Overall a great weekend with some of the best weather, likely anywhere in the country for the weekend.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

I'm guessing Cappy exhaust on the 400f. I've been wanting to hear how that exhaust system sounds on a 350f or 400f. Is there like an SOH4 calendar? If there is something like this near Louisiana I would love to go!

None of his junk to be found on this one. The exhaust was Moto GPWerks, wheels were Campagnolo, combination of AP and Brembo brakes. Basically, premium period goodies from front to back.

Marzocchi forks ! I've never seen Marzocchi forks so that's a first;I've owned Marzocchi rear shocks though and would like to still be able to find a pr. of 'Strada's somewhere.
