1971 CB750 JAPANESE MARKET BIKE FINALLY FINISHED
« on: October 10, 2016, 11:37:32 AM »
Well just in time for the snow to fly, I finished my Jap market 1971 CB750, in Polynesian Blue. Guess I wont be riding it again till next year now...gggrrr.....I did however add about 2000 km to the original mileage over the summer before I stripped it for final finishing.
Parts are mostly NOS, very few repop parts. I bartered/traded/ begged and swapped for parts all over mainly Western Canada, resulting in my costs over and above the original $1500 purchase price, only being about $1200. I even had a friend paint the bike for me at no cost, but I'm sure I will owe him big time in the future.......
The only error I know of is that the rear blinkers should be red, which I will correct shortly.
It has the correct Jap market decals and Km speedo, 80 Km warning light, short taillight with orange side reflectors, but doesn't have the fixed foot pegs that were used in Japan on some of the early models. I suspect they were changed out to the folding pegs when the bike came to Canada.
Now I'm starting on a 1970 resto, which I will probably sell, but it will be fun nonetheless.

Great job ItsAHonda4. I just finished my 1977 CB400F, having it running and charging great but I'm standing in the garage watching the snow come down. You gotta love Calgary.

Very nice, is that blue  a 71 domestic market color or could you get it here? I've got a sweet 71 I'm working on now.

I imagine if a Classic bike collector from Japan knew about that bike, they would offer you a good amount of $ for it.

I understand being genuine, but red rear turn signals are not allowed in Canada. Combo brake/turn lights on cars are OK but not red "turn only" signal lights. Amber only.

Red rear blinkers are fitted as stock to my 1969 all-original Canadian market XS1, and I will fit them to this bike also....the day I get pulled over by a cop for that minor infraction, I guess will be the day I hand in my licence and my helmut......Seriously, Im not concerned about that issue as we live across the street from a moron with a hot rod and if he can get away with straight pipes out the back of a crap-pile yellow something-or-other, barely functioning lights/ no blinkers and no seat belts then I think I'm safe.

Thanks everyone for the compliments.
The colour was a Japanese market offering, but I believe [and I stand to be corrected] that the Poly Blue was not offered in North America. The Blue/green was very popular but its got lots more green in it than this colour. Also, this is not a candy colour, but is a small-flake metallic. We had an original NOS headlight so could match the colour quite easily at the local paint supply shop. This bike was originally gold, but the Poly Blue just had to be the colour for me.

Weather is nice here today  +2 or so, and its looking like I might be forced to endure some cold for maybe one last ride.

You are correct. Another blue, Planet Blue, was offered as a K5 only model in the US, but is different.

Love the Poly Blue, it was an inspiration of the Blue on my K4 [see avatar]

I reread the vehicle regulations. Red is indeed ok on rear turn signals, I thought there was a restriction on motorcycles but I can't find any.
No red bulb or lens on any front-facing light except on some emergency vehicles.
Such regulations, however silly (handlebar height above the seat with a rider's weight thereon?), allow police a reasonable cause to stop you and something to write a ticket for if they can't bust you for anything else. While usually 100% legal, I try to avoid police interactions. It's not that I dislike police, I just feel better when they're not around.

My exact thoughts. I was going to go gold on mine, until I saw the Polynesian blue!
