Road Trip
« on: October 12, 2016, 07:17:22 AM »
Looking for some pointers on trailering my 750.
1) Do you put the bike in neutral or in gear when transporting?
2) Do you compress the shocks to a degree when strapping down?
3) Four tie downs, two on front and two on back? Thats it?

Photo: I did move the back tie downs off the luggage rack and onto the frame on the back of the bike.

Great looking bike. Depending on the speed you will be trailering might consider taking those nice side covers off. I have seen the wind pull those off. Anyway of protecting the tank from stones. Just being anal

Johnie,
I know what you mean about protecting the fuel tank and side covers.
All new Candy Presto Red with decals and badges.
Thought of taking them off for the trip.
About three hours from Cleveland, Ohio Salamanca, New York.
Lot could happen in three hours!

Understood Old Timer.
Did the trip 41 years ago with the girlfriend / wife, on a same 750 Supersport.
Sleeping bag and tent on the back of the bike to Allegheny State Park.
Asked the wife, do you want to take the same trip again on the new 750?
She replied, Are you F---ing Crazy???

So we are going this route this time....

This "Old Timer" nowadays would rather get in his 1979 Ford Thunderbird Heritage Edition, adjust the six way power seat, throw in a quadraphonic eight track tape (maybe rare earth), have the Ford Factory installed CB radio on (breaker breaker one nine good buddy) for road updates, set the climate control to a comfortable 72 degrees, press the cruise control on the freeway to about 70 mph, have a beverage at arms reach and see my 1977 Honda 750F Supersport tagging along like mans best friend in the rear view mirror.

I would add a rope around the front of the front wheel so it can't roll backwards and leave it in neutral.

So some of you say "in gear" and some say "in neutral".
Any reasoning for in gear verses in neutral?

I don't think it really matters either way - I try not to park my car in gear on busy roads so that if it gets rear ended the drive train wont get damaged.
If you secure the front wheel, there's no need to put it in gear, but it wouldn't matter if you did.
