Hi Everyone!
I just replaced the clutch cable on my 1977 cb750F and the clutch doesn't seem to engage until the lever is almost back at it's perch. I have no problems shifting or getting into gear, but I've tried to adjust multiple times per the Clymer manual and can't seem to get it right.
I followed the steps:
1. Screwing in clutch cable bolt at the grip lever until it stops against the bracket.
2. Turn the clutch adjusting bolt at the clutch housing to slack off the cable.
3. Loosened the locknut
4. Turn the lifter adjusting screw clockwise until a slight resistance is felt. Then turn back 1/4 turn counter clockwise.
My question is.. when i go to tightening up the cable on the clutch end (leaving the bolt at the lever all the way in), i can see the cable pulling in the clutch arm (stretching out the spring). Seeing the spring stretch out and the clutch arm move closer in as i take slack out makes me think it might be too much pressure on the clutch. Is this true?
The first time i adjusted the cable, i saw the clutch arm move in and stretch the spring out. The release on the clutch was much better at this point, but I don't want to run the risk of this being too tight or something and end up ruining the discs.
I know there are some topics on here already, but all of the symptoms aren't quite what i'm experiencing. Thanks in advance for anyone's knowledge!!!
