Time has been at a premium lately, managed to finish everything but the top radiator mount, and the skateboard wheel for the chain. I imagine tomorrow I can get that done, along with all the sanding and prep to JB weld where I want to work areas smooth. I think I may do more than originally planned, especially since I need it to photograph well in close ups, and i'm sure the frame is going to be scrutinized at shows. I also like to take the time to even make things pretty that won't be seen since I'll know it's there.

Certainly understand the "Time Factor", especially this time of the year. Just sitting on ready, to see and hear more about the progress, as you can, of course.

It is looking really good!  I bet it is exciting to see things coming together.

Looking forward to more as your dream comes together.

Waiting to get me wheels before I can do much more. I went with 18's so there will be a little more trail, but given how much lighter the bike will be I think the additional straight line stability won't really sacrifice anything on cornering. Oh, and just for a good chuckle, I order the correct center and kickstand for the bike from fleabay, and had a good laugh mounting the kickstand. Looking at photos I'm sure someone will figure out why.

Left to do:

Weld top radiator mount
Cap old downtube
fit and modify skateboard wheel
gas tank (not my job, thank god!)
Rearset linkage
fit center stand
fabricate plate for 3rd motor mount (easiest of the 3)
Go for a ride?

I'm hoping to have final mock up done by the end of January, then by March 1st have it refinished and rebuilt.

Have to say that this one, is one of the most interesting builds that I have followed and I am here to the end. Very cool concept too.  ;)

Heh thanks. It's certainly a fun ride. Just got a 17t front sprocket in, 2 up from the 15t from the factory. This should be a big help for clearance purposes.

I would not be at all surprised if our friends in Honda Tokyo were following this also. It's such a good idea.

Kev

I doubt that it would happen, but would be cool if there was a "Kit" on the Market, To make it so a person could Buy and "Build Their Own". Could start a whole new trend.  8)

I'm anxious to see and hear, how this combo works out, myself.  ;)

I have an extra 450 frame. Hmmm....

Be pretty cool to see some more of these pop up and, possibly with some slight variation, depending on others ideas of different ideas of certain parts to use, to give it a slightly different look or whatever.  8) ;)

No doubt a second one like everything is easier than the first, I say a low mileage 2015 cbr motor on ebay for $400 the only thing wrong was a broken upper mount.

Jag, you got the motor shipped for 600...did that include injectors and radiator, etc needed for the bike or were they add-ons.  Just curious what kind of dough goes into sourcing the components to have a running motor as most of the cbr500r motors I looked at on ebay were in the 800 range without any exhaust or fi system.

Are you going to use a microsquirt controller or the stock honda system?

Seems all the parts get broken down on ebay maximizing profits from the bike components.

Just curious how one would go about getting all the needed stuff shipped from a wrecked bike...or finding a place  or person that would sell the wrecked bike to you at a good price.

Thanks!

Hey David, yes I am using all the stock Honda components, and yes I picked them up separately. The motor I made a low ball offer and it was accepted, and this motor was perfect, nothing broken at all.

Alright, sounds like a motor that would be comfy in a new home (frame), with a bit of mount repair?

Looks great! Unusual lacing on the front, all spokes on the inside. What's the story with that?
More room for the discs? Is that a Cognito Moto front hub, for a GSXR fork?

Inside lacing required by Devin's hub if you are going to follow the directions...  wheels look good!  Just teasing us and stringing us along for a big reveal. Or, is it merely a fan dance?

Seems all the parts get broken down on ebay maximizing profits from the bike components.

I would think that you watching salvage auctions, and picking up a complete bike might be a good way to go to minimize cost, then sell off the remaining parts to offset the purchase price.

Of course, I don't know what price a complete wrecked bike would bring.

Other components, such as the front end might be useful too.   While not as good as a CBR600 or GSXR600 fork, the CB500F (or the other 500cc variants) front end is likely a big improvement over the stock 1970's one.

So, plan to drop a cbr600r motor in another frame next?  It would have to be a lot stronger frame...

There probably could be a small market for such a mod if it was not way over the top in power overpowering a chassis even with frame reinforcements.

There are not too many in between compact motors giving a healthy power increase with a cut and fit solution. At least not modern unless you start switching brands...
Maybe a thread to discuss that spitballing idea would be better than sidetracking your build.

According to the members on the cbr500r forum, a Power Commander 5 will allow you to tune another 7 hp out of the stock motor, without attempting to unlock the ECU.  An airbox mod and exhaust should give you another few hp.  If you can find an aftermarket performance cam, that would likely help too.
