The 71 750 wanted to pee gas all over the lift all day so I didn't get the wing up there on it. I'm betting my tires come in tomorrow.
I'll try to get out there early and pull the wheels.

Well done on not letting those "fabricators" get your bikes and turn them into trendy crap Don, if a CB750 cost as much as a Vincent Black Shadow, those parasites would go find something else to fcuk up, but I'd be happy. Respect to you for mounting your own tyres too, that's something I gave away many moons ago.........

What a load Frank, we don't ride a bike to "be seen" on it, what are you, a fcuking movie star? Anyway, with a head like yours, you should be made to wear a full face helmet, just to give every one around you a break!

I'll pay my local mom and pop shop to do the actual tire mounting, they gotta eat too. I buy my tires there and take them the wheels to swap them. I also buy some of my my misc. Honda parts there. I overpay a little but get benefit of their expertise in trade for that.

I checked the water pump, it's way loose. I can't believe it didn't leak. I ordered a new one from JT
Marks with an oil seal and gasket kit. The front cover needs to come off and the crosspoint screws are a mayor pain, they are right behind the frame and are welded in place. I've partially stripped the head on one already, chisel on the side of the head time.

Update, I got them all loose and pulled the front cover. I used a sharp chisel on the sides of the screw heads, the one recessed one got the battery impact treatment and it spun out after a little hammer work. There is a guy on the naked Goldwing site that sells allen bolt kits to replace the crosspoint screws

Today I found a radiator hose, cap and thermostat at Carquest/Advance auto parts from part numbers on the naked Goldwing site. Prices were cheap compared to what Honda would want. I have an odd looking driving light mount that cantilevers off the front windjammer bolts I'm looking at LED driving lights to use on them. I saw a group of beemers last year that were too bright in the daytime. I'd like an LED that's small and adds to my sight line without blinding other drivers.

Yeah, Sorry to Honda but I got my timing belts from rock auto for 20% of the Honda price too. They're gates belts like my buddy uses on his supercharged funny car.
That's where a site like this and naked Goldwings comes in handy. JT Marks smoked my Honda dealer's prices on Genuine Honda parts too.
I'm as excited to ride this as I am my K1 750. I'm planning to do Sturgis and Devils Tower on the wing this year.

My rear tire came in 16" and there is no 17" until the width won't fit in that model Michelin, They sold me a year old rear pilot and ordered the front to match. I bought a K&L gasket and seal kit to fill in the blanks from what Marks sent me. I needed the big cover gasket, you can't pull the pump without removing the cover because it bolts to the inside.

I could not get the radiator back in this beast. The top clamp got in the way no matter where I put it so I took it off and suddenly the radiator fit right in. Then I wrestled the top hose on and put the clamp facing down. The radiator hose number didn't leave enough for the bottom hose so I'll need to find one and cut it to fit too.
At least I read the manual and taped cardboard over the fins so I didn't bend it up. next up, radiator shield, crash bars, lowers trick driving light mount (maybe) antifreeze new radiator cap, lower lift, ride, repeat.

The crash bars were a bear to get back in at the top motor mount bolts, One had a bolt and nut and one had a threaded bung. It turns out there is a spreader bar between the mounts with bungs on each end. There should be no nut dangit. I bumped it with a wrench and heard it go clank in there. Then I figured out what was up. The old PO trickery.
My 79 was missing these bolts and on it's test ride on a fast off ramp it handled squirmy. After I found the missing/loose bolts and put some in it handled much better. I bet it didn't have this spreader at all either.

Does that help the frame clamp down better on the motor mounts ?

Yes, for sure. Frame things were moving around until I bolted down the 79 frame/motor mounts. The 79 is gone but I'm not remembering the strut on that bike at all. When I got it someone had begun to work on it and then stopped without putting anything back like it was and I hadn't seen one before. Even the dealer service manual could use some exploded diagrams like in the parts book. That strut ties everything together and makes it more rigid.

I got 15 miles on the 78 today, I broke in the new tires, got the brakes pumped up and working, the starter clutch grabbed every time, I put on a new tach cable and the tack works but is sluggish. I think it got better as the ride went along.
The turn signal beeper even started beeping but only 3 beeps for every try. By the time I got home, the idle was a thousand rpm too high. I remember turning it up when I got it running the first time.

All in all I'm declaring victory on the gl1000. I need to get the vetter bags from my brother so I can refurbish the cracked ones I got with this bike.

Actually before pics (I can tell because of the tires) But it has new Michelin pilot II's now. I've been neglecting pictures of the wing and focusing on the K1 750.

Here is the timing belt and water pump job

You can see the timing mark turned in to the middle, I do both belts then turn the crank one turn and re-tension the left side belt so it gets the same tension as the right side.
You can see the front mounted shifter and behind the round black seal are the two oil pumps, one for engine one for trans. There is a sediment sump on the right side, I still need to take it out and clean it.

Here's the entire skinny on my last 6 months bike dealings, "all my bidness out in publick".

Old Blue was the PO's favorite even though he let it sit all those years. He really didn't intend to, but a newer bike came along and pretty soon the plate expired as did the battery. The next thing he knew he had built a new house with a big garage and he had lined up all the bikes that needed the carbs cleaned, batteries, got wrecked, bought wrecked, bought cut up, a drunken storage guy attacked some of the 750's with a hammer so he brought those home, and now he's moving to florida. I bought 6 750's and the blue wing from him.

Then I got a K1 from an ad on facebook and 4 750's from my brother. I think I spent $3400 for all 11 together. On top of that I spent a couple thousand on the k1, using the money from the 79 wing and a welder I sold to finance the K1 exhaust and parts.
So after all that I have the Brown K1, white 77 F'nK, a friends old 72K w/836, a pretty nice 75K all there, my brothers one owner flake orange 74K, and #E1002695 sandcast engine, and a stock used exhaust system. Three titled rolling frames and one not rolling, 3 stuck engines.
The garage checkbook is now pretty low and race season is coming. I need to sell a couple items. Not mentioned or for sale are my two keeper K0 bikes. I license and insure two K0's and one wing. That's all I'm planning to keep although the one owner K4 would be hard to sell. And the drag bike and that's all. I think. Oh, 2 the unstamped 70 diecast engines.

Hey Don, how much do you want for that sandcast engine? I think I may have "scored" an almost complete sandy, but the original sandcast cases have been replaced with diecast replacement cases. Feel free to PM me if you like. Cheers, Terry.
