Attaching a new seat cover
« on: October 21, 2016, 05:09:03 PM »
A few year's ago I bought a seat cover from DSS and it came with some hardware to attach it to the pan. The hardware that I'm looking for consisted of some metal, s shaped clips. As I stretched the cover over the pan, I used the clips to hold it in place. Then once I had it secured all the way around I installed the trim piece. Does anyone know where I might be able to find more of those clips? I wish I had a picture but all of mine are in place.

I'm not sure what these clips are, but are 77-78 seats different in their upholstery method? On my 77-78 seats the cover is held on by a bunch of spikes in the stamped metal.

The seat on mine was a 76. I'm actually trying to help a buddy out. He has a 71 CB500 but it came with no cover. I honestly can't recall how my cover was attached originally. I do recall removing the stock tabs on the pan because it allowed me to stretch that cover tighter while using those provided clips. What are some ways that people are attaching new covers to the pan?

I'm planning to use pop rivets, when I attempt to recondition an old pan for my second rebuild

I prefer "gator teeth"...

New gator teeth upholstery strips riveted to the seat pan to hold the new seat cover (install the rivet from the outside so the flush heads don't leave bumps in the new skin):

New skin stretched into place:

All that work just for this:

That looks awesome. Now I know what I'll be using for my other rebuild, rather than spending $400 on a new seat!

I also use a hot glue gun rather than any metal clips.
