Dare I?
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:12:50 PM »
I've got a friend who has a 99 Ninja zx6 for sale. He thinks the clutch is slipping in 2nd at higher rpms. He wants 1200 for the ninja, and will throw in a 77 750 that runs to sweeten the pot. I might try to get him down to a grand, but who knows if he will bite on that. Would you guys take the bikes for 1200?

I think it is posible to buy a low miles used clutch for pennies on eBay, fix the clutch. Sell the bike (ninja) and make out like a bandit with a CB750 and a pile of spare cash. Of course thier is always the keep them both thing  ;)

Negotiate, the worst he can say is no. I'll bet 1,100 might be the good money on this deal.
Contact me for affordable rotor drilling services at $55 each rotor. Same day service on CB750/CB500/CB550 rotors. Next day on everything else.

If he is a friend, why would you try to talk him down?
$1200 seems reasonable to me, especially if you plan on selling either of them.

a 99 zx6 in good shape (good shapers are hard to find!) is worth far more than 1200 bucks.  whether anyone on here will admit that besides me is a different story  ;)

hell, on a student budget... i'd be all over it!  condition is everything though.

-exactly. Check the bike for other issues that a convienent slipping clutch will be masking. As mentioned "If a deal seems too good to be true...". but if this is a straight deal, you should already have both of them in your possession right now. ;D

I'd take em both for $1200  then again no harm in asking if he'll take $1000, as in "all i can come up with is $1000"  and if he doesnt bite take the orig deal

If you don't take it, tell me where your friend is and I'll be glad to take them off his hands.

Up here a 99 zx6 in good shape is not uncommon to fetch about 3000-3500...obviously gonna detract from the value but how much can it cost to fix the clutch?

Funny thing is that is exactly the bike I am looking to pick up. I want a daily rider that is pretty reliable and still quick and fun enough to keep me interested but is still reasonable when it come to insurance...

I'd love to get a second CB.  I suspect the Ninja has been beat to h***.... but for 1200 bucks a package deal with the CB is a great value.  The Ninja would be fun to have too, of course.  NO one here can deny it has strenghts different than our vintage CBs.  They are examples of the proverbial apple and orange.

About negotiating the price.... If you don't ask, you'll never know.   This has been a lesson learned for me.  You'll be suprised what a simple question will get you :-)

buy them! if the ninja is a p.o.s. part it out. the front end wheels and tires would go great on someones cafe build (like mine). If you got the money, just go get it.I would not even haggle. If its your bud and it is a good deal just get it.

Why are you even asking about such a sweet deal?  I'd have bought the bikes already.
