Just throwing it out there for commentary
« on: November 05, 2016, 12:18:07 PM »
I am selling my unique 1969 bike, that has the warranty engine incorrectly stamped by the factory....
The bike was a sandcast and has all the correct sandcast bits - swingarm, air box, instruments, ducktail seat and so on, but the engine stamped CB750-1000767 is diecast. There is still a sandcast head on it, with the correct valve cover and so on, but to stress the point, the engine is diecast.
I have the correct 4 cable carbs, single cut fender in good shape, correct rear fender and a wrinkle tank.
Its all in large lumps, ready to undertake a full resto. Sidecovers and airbox are Yamiya parts new unpainted. Tank is not original paint and will need reapinting to match the new parts.
Soooooo, whats it worth?

Diecast cases with sandcast clutch? That would make it obvious as to what it is IMO.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Replacement case, A well known problem was chain failure on the early bikes that broke the cases. As far as value, I don't know. Someone here may be interested enough to PM.
 What's the frame number?

No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Frame number 10012120.typically the frame number would suggest it wasn't a sandcast but everything else on the bike suggests it originally was such a bike.
It appears that the replacement engine cases were ordered as a warranty unit, thats why they were stamped by the factory, but nonetheless, stamped wrong somehow, missing the 'E' out of the usual engine number sequence.
I have had an offer on the bike and will probably sell it locally for a bit less money but simplified delivery........

You might PM kmb69 and give him a swing at it/its value. He's rather keen on these.

To be honest it still sounds pretty much like an early K0 die cast with the frame serial numbers. Sandies had a double cut front fender. Early Sandcast had the horn mount on the left side and carb tops had a #28 stamped on them. Hopefully some other folks can give you some more clues to look for. Ko's had wrinkle tanks, 4 cable carbs, single cut front fender etc. so that is not unique to a sandcast.

A lot of early diecast shared a lot of the same parts as sandcast.
When you say sandcast head and valvecover, what id different on those ? Heads that look the same were used on over 1/2 of the KO models.
If the motor was in the 700 range there would be many differences, but hard for a lot of people to tell. Do you carbs have number tops, and the long choke lever ?  If not, they never were on an early bike. How many holes on the clutch cover?

Looks like maybe an extra digit in your frame number.

Might be a Sandcast if the frame is actually CB750-1002120. Except for a few French Sandcasts, the US SC frame numbers only had 4 significant digits.

Pretty sure the factory NEVER stamped replacement cases. I replaced a bunch of them back in the day and they all came new in the box unstamped.

Sounds like the shop that replaced them or the PO fu-barred the case stamping. Pictures of the frame/engine numbers would confirm the Honda font or not.

I have CB750E-1007419 and it's all Sandcast stuff except for the cases. Also have a couple of 4 digit K0's that are all Sandcast stuff except for the cases.

Sounds like SC carbs for sure but not likely those are the original carbs if frame is really CB750-10012120.

Yes the frame is 12120, so we know if definitely isnt a SC......
10 holes in the clutch cover.
Either way its an interesting Frankenbike, but of no significant value other than as a conversation piece I guess.......
Thanks for the input.

K0 bikes can have significant value, lots more than later year bikes especially when they still have stock early parts.

I would be interested in buying those carbs if they are for sale. Please post pics if you would like to sell them.
