1981 cb750 strange noise at start up (wont start)
« on: October 21, 2016, 08:01:53 PM »
So. after cleaning the carbs and installing them back into the bike along with a new throttle cable; the bike started and ran for about a block. Then it started to make a strange noise at the start up (sec 7 and 27ish) to the point it wont start.

If anyone can recognize the noise i would greatly appreciate it, I have never had this problem at start up before.

Thanks in advance

Moving this here since it's a DOHC.

The noise I hear seems to be the starter sprag slipping. That's most likely NOT the reason it won't start. Have you verified that you have fuel and spark?
Pull a spark plug and lay it on the head while you turn the engine over (after plugging it back into the plug wire, of course) and see if you have spark.

Is there gas in the tank? Is the petcock on? Is there fuel in the carb bowls? What do the plugs look like?

Did you test the spark plug while it was laying on the head? Did you see a spark?

Have you messed with the coil wiring at all? You don't have the coils wired for the wrong cylinders do you?
