New CB750 K6 Project in Sunny San Diego
« on: October 26, 2016, 06:24:21 PM »
Greetings All!

Just got a 1976 CB 750 for $900 off Craigslist.  The bike was completely disassembled, but the motor had good compression so I pulled the proverbial trigger.

Never wrenched on a bike before, all my mechanical knowledge stems from working on my truck and Youtube lol.

Well, I pulled the valve cover and immediatley discovered why I got such a deal. The camshaft holder on the far right side was cracked and tearing up the cam.

Now it looks like its going to be a complete top and bottom end rebuild, got most of the motor torn down,  just got stuck trying to remove the alternator stator so that i can crack the bottom end of the motor and see if there is any bottom end damage.

Heads, Valves, Cylinders, and Pistons are going to the machine shop and soon as I can figure out how to remover the Stator.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just dont know what tool will do the job,  I found a thread on this forum and someone mentioned a shop Online Z1 enterprises has a Flywheel puller (21x1.5) that might work. Can anyone confirm this?

Wish me luck, hope I dont loose too many tools or fingers during this job! haha ::)

You don't need remove stator to split the cases.

Thanks for the replies! and the advise.

Got the crankcase split and the pushrods almost all off the crankshaft.  You guys were right, didnt need to remover the stator.
Next is getting the parts to the machine shop for porting and polishing!

Thanks!

Just an Update,

About to start a Thread in "Project Shop'' as Steve-o recommended but not sure about posting photos so I thought Id give it a shot here first instead of posting and messing it up and getting burned on the boards.

Heres the bike as purchased off Cragislist,

not sure why it came out upside down

It's not upside down when you click on it.

Did you post it using a tablet? It has happened to others too.

Hey Guys,

Running into a bit of a proverbial brick wall hunting down some parts. In desperate need of a replacement Cam Shaft, Camshaft Holder, Caps, and Exhaust Valve guides.

For the Camshaft, not sure if I should keep it stock or order a Fabricated one from Megacycle or CycleX, as for the Holder and the caps, Ive found a few on Ebay but I cant seem to tell if there is a difference between L and R sides, the part number seems to be the same.

The exhaust valve guides im just completely striking out on.

Any help is apreciated
