"Cobra" engine
« on: November 30, 2006, 01:54:10 PM »
I have a chance to pick up a 1976 750F with supposedly a 1000cc Cobra engine in it....the guy said a few years ago he had to put second gear in it and while it was open he saw the crank had RC  stamped on it......so it leads me to believe it has RC Engineering guts in it...someone enlighten me on the Cobra engine..........thanks

If it's a Cobra it should have porting, rods, cam ,aluminum retainers etc etc. It should have a plaque on the cam cover unless it came off after all these years. Which leads me to another point...any of that RC stuff is so old now I'd be very wary of it. I just had a set of RC rods throughly checked over for a board member (who paid good money too) and they were junk. They really weren't that great when they were new! Just because it says "RC" doesn't mean it's any good....it just means it's old. The pistons they used (thick 1st, 2nd rings,1 piece oil rings or 4 piece huge oil rings) are junk compared to a new ART OEM, Wiseco, JE, Ross etc. The Yosh parts were better than the RC stuff #1 because it came out of Japan.... this includes cams, springs, guides and retainers. I know it's a trip down memory lane but keep keep in mind just how far you're traveling down the path. ;) :D

I agree. And the stuff being made today for the 750s is light years ahead of the old RC stuff.

The one on the bike Tim is 30 years old from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
She is 5ft 4ins and weighs 125lb

Hardly.....but wouldn't that be the total package. Pilot, motorcyclist, blond, and if her daddy owns a bar we'd be set.  ;D
