Topic: Emgo Right Hand Starter Switch Wiring From Dennis Kirk

Hey Guys,
I bought one of those "Direct Fit" Emgo right hand switches to replace the old one on my '77 CB750K. Unfortunately its not as direct a fit as I thought it would be. The main difference is that there is an On and Off switch on the Emgo unit as well as the round Engine Run switch and the horn button. My '77 does not have the On/Off switch. Does anybody have any clue what the On/Off switch is for? Is it for a later or earlier model?

On the unit on my bike there is solid black wire and a black wire with a white stripe coming from the Engine Run switch. There is also a black wire with a red stripe, a yellow wire with a red stripe and a solid black wire coming from the horn. The two solid black wires join at the same terminal in the harness connector. I have a color wiring diagram for my bike and was able to follow the diagram with the control on the bike.

On the Emgo unit there is Yellow wire with a red stripe and a green wire with a red stripe coming from the horn button. There is a black wire with a white stripe and a solid black wire coming from the Engine Run switch. Then there is brown wire with a white stripe and a black wire with a red stripe coming from the On/Off switch.

Any help you guys can give me or anybody who is familiar with the Emgo units who could give me insight would be greatly appreciated.

This was brought up recently, but I can't remember exactly when. A pic might help. You have what sounds like an older model switch for an
earlier model with on/off headlight function. The post '75 bikes had headlight on always, unless starter button is activated.
wiring is dfferent and of course, no on/off switch beginning with k6 iirc...someone will know for sure.
Are you certain that button isn't a starter button rather than for the horn?

Get in touch with Scottly. He had a solution to wire in the switch to the headlight circuit. I believe, at least in my F, there is a spare brown (perhaps) in the headlight bucket that can be used somehow for this??

I did suspect it was an older model switch somehow. I just wanted to be sure. I was also looking for an alternative way if possible for wiring the older ones (-'75) to the newer models. I wish Emgo had enough foresight to include diagrams with their merchandise. I always pay more for the stuff that comes with instructions.

with my '77 the headlight comes on once I've inserted the key and turned the ignition to the On position. I don't have a probl;em with taping the headlight On/Off switch wires but if there's a way for me to incorporate it in then I sure would like to do so.
