Johnie's 1971 CB750K Project - Patina Bike 2

Member gwallis found this bike in SE WI and posted some pics on the board. He decided to pass it on to a local SOHC member. Lucky enough it was only an hour away and based on the gwallis pics I knew I had to jump on it. Called the owner and offered to pay his asking of $650. He was a nice guy and the transaction was easy. No haggling, no counter offers, no kicking tires...the bike was well worth it. 41,000 miles with title and motor is free. Missing is the front turn signals, rear shock covers, gators, OEM exhaust and key. The good...tank is very clean with minimal spotty rust. Petcock was closed and carbs were drained. A look in the carb bowls shows clean carbs with brass floats. Both side covers have all tabs, are free of cracks and have the badges in place. OEM seat has tear on top. Bike shifts through all the gears smooth. I plan on new sprockets, chain, tires, wheel bearings, fork seals, master...you know...the basics. Tank, fenders, etc. are dent free with some rust. May clean up nice. The handlebars should have the wiring inside, but for some reason the right side wiring is outside the bars and has splices probably from an old fairing. Crash bars have kept the side of the bike in real nice shape. Took those crash bars off already so I can stop smashing my shins on them. The bike had a sissy bar / luggage rack which had been removed. Will get more into this project once my CB550K project is done. However, I am sure I will dabble with this K1 along with the 550 too. Hey Johnie, what's the frame and engine numbers?? If the front fender is original single cut its probably very early K1. Subscribed.

Danyo...no single cut fender. Frame 1048197 - engine 1048579. Build date is 7/70 and titled as a 1971. This one is even earlier than my other K1 which has a build date of 9/70 and is titled as a 1970.

Have not done much to it yet except to do some cleaning. Will probably not get a lot done this winter on the K1 as I have to finish up this CB550 first. Plus, I have to remove the radio in the Wing to convert it to iPod from cassette. But I am so glad I have this K1 waiting in the wings. It will be a fun one and will turn out very nice. Of course it comes with a challenge...finding some 300's if possible.

OK, the CB550 is done and sold. The 69 CB750 Patina Bike 1 is done. Now I will get going on this gold K1 which I got in October 2016. So this week I moved it into the shop. Drained the oil and removed the master and caliper and got those parts and cleaned up. Was surprised to find the original oil filter washer still in place.

Do not plan to do a lot just yet as this will be my retirement project. Yes, I will retire the end of January and plan this as my winter project. With deer hunting this weekend and then the holidays...well...you know how that goes. But looking forward to this one. This will be another patina project as I don't plan to paint or chrome.

Hey Johnie....congrats on your upcoming retirement, you old geezer...ha!  Lucky you.

Looks like a nice project you will have, however, hoping those pipes goe in the trash bin as they are way past patina!

Maybe find a nice used set of 300/341's to put on there rather than a set of shiny new ones?

Yes, those pipes are rough Stev-o. On a good note I put a battery in today and have power throughout. Starter is good, lights, blinkers (PO removed front) and tail light. Spark to the points too. I see some not OEM stuff in the bucket which will be addressed. Always nice to see them come alive.

My son took a big doe. I was only doing buck this year since I have enough sausage and meat to last me until next year. I never even saw a buck. Season is not over yet.
