There was a small amount of sludge in the oil tank which I cleaned out.

Johnie, congrats on the upcoming retirement! Hope work throws you a nice party when the time comes. Nice bike to have as a retirement winter project. Since she's a 71 do you plan on keeping stock pipes or are you thinking about some aftermarket like those nice 4-into-1s coming from north of the border

? Nothing like a nice set of the original or repop 4 into 4 pipes as they are gorgeous...I'm a sucker for that look, but the price...they are too proud of them possibly.

Look forward to seeing your cleanup of this one and the direction of the patina takes during cleanup. Will you repaint side stand or pegs if they need it or is she remaining original as she is currently, just cleaned well and kept that way?

You have some luck finding nice bikes. Ever thought of doing it on consignment? Find them and pass them on untouched for a fee above the negotiated sale price?

Thanks RAF! I will go with 4-4 pipes on this bike like the others. Or the new owner can put some on. You know how hard it is to find decent used ones. I am not a fan of aftermarket and need the original look. I’m in no hurry so have time to look. Like with the patina 69 I will paint the stands just so the next owner won’t have to remove the exhaust to do it. Or if a buyer says leave the stands I want the patina that’s fine. But seldom do I have a buyer before the bike is done.

Always so hard to sell a good project. Maybe it gets easier with age but I've never enjoyed selling any of my projects done or otherwise yet.

Gurp...I have never had problems selling these CB750's. In fact, all have sold to forum members. I have never used CL or any other media for these bikes. The key is no secret - buy low and have some room to make a bit for the parts and labor you put into it. However, I do not cut corners as I always do sprockets, chain, tires, wheel bearings, steering bearings, brakes, master, carbs and tune before it leaves the shop. I will not sell a bike that I would not feel safe riding myself. Sure the 69 - 71 sell a bit faster and for more cash, but as they age that sale price is getting better each year.

As luck would have it I found a nice set of HM300's for my 69 blue/green Patina #1. So I will take the 341's off the 69 and put the 300's on the blue/green. The 341's I will use for this K1 until I can find some used 300's for it. Or the next owner can find their own and I will keep the 341's for the next project.

Wow, makes me want to do another. Here on Maui they are few and far between. I found a K3 just up the street in a small shop, waiting for whatever.

So I planned to start on this bike when I retired the end of January 2019. You're not going to believe it, but in retirement I did something I wanted to do many years ago...I took the Red Cross lifeguarding course, passed and have been working some hours at the local YMCA since March. It took me almost 2 months of 3 days a week training to get ready for the lifeguard water pre-test to show I could swim. So that is my excuse for not really starting on this K1 until now. The good is they don't need me a lot in summer since college and high school kids can work. So I will only do about 1 shift a week and have plenty of time to ride. Will dabble on the bike this summer and fall, but most of the work will be during this winter. So that is my story and I will stick to it.

I mentioned earlier I was planning to paint the stands so the next owner would not have to take the exhaust off to do it. Do you think that is a mistake? Should I leave it all patina? I really don't mind doing it since I am removing the exhaust anyway in favor of the 4-4. Just looking for your input here...

How rusty are the side stand and center stand? I would vote for painting them.

+1. Just clean it up with WD and remove the surface rust w/o damaging what is left of the original paint.

There again, I would be hard pressed not to just take it apart but that would drive up the costs and time.

Enjoy riding season! Here on Maui we have to always divide the time up since we can always ride. In fact, riding in "winter" is better, it's a bit cooler.

Never did get that fall ride in on this bike. After a nice summer and fall riding season I am back in the shop to continue this K1 project. Deer hunting, a new grandson and the holidays have slowed me down a bit, but I thought I should get a post up on the recent work. Changed out the rear wheel bearings and the rim is now in for new rear tire. Once that gets back I will put on the new sprockets and chain. Will be doing some cleaning in the area of the rear tire. Once the rear is done I will rebuild the front forks and seals. Then install new wheel bearings. I will have to rebuild the front right wiring harness that the PO pulled out of the bars and put a bunch of wire splices in it. Hondaman had a partial harness for me to use...thanks HM. Then comes the usual carb work, etc. So I am making some headway. It was nice to get back in the shop!
