Looking at the pics I assume the added bolts bear down on the flat areas of the cam towers?

Possible with a rivet thread insert? No weld....

Example movie

If the hole is too wide, use a bigger rivet insert and in that use an M6 Time-sert.....
Maybe use of a shaped washer to control the angle of the rivet thread insert when the cover is curved.... + sealer..

Nope. From the pictures on their site, the insert they use has external threads and the hole in the valve cover would be tapped for the insert to be threaded in from what I can see. Can't speak one way or another as to reliability. Based on the CycleX approach, you could drill and tap the center of a short bolt (M10?) that could then be threaded into tapped holes in the valve cover.

At what point do we really need to use this method to hold the rockers in place?? I guess I'm living on borrowed time after 18 years, but even with the RC327 cam, and using the advertised seat pressure for the KPMI springs, I have yet to lift a cam holder. I'll count my blessings for the many years of great service from the stock set up. I've had countless passes at WOT down the dragstrip without issue.  Keep the homebrew options coming guys, I may need to consider this over the winter time as added insurance.

For me it's more "old school cool" than anything. I have not seen any proven advantage, more of just a "warm fuzzy". This is one of the few mods where I might consider the form over function, i.e. I believe it looks cooler than it actually performs, but cool enough to implement!   ;) 8)

CycleX version has thread inserts in the thin cover, fastened with red loctite. No chance it will keep together. I have one in my garage as an example. One insert popped direct at assembly when the hole in cover had no threads. Maybe the tool spun to fast and worked as a drill. Insert just glued with loctite.

If a rivet thread insert can be used and aligned correctly it must work much better....

I drilled my camcover yesterday.
Took 30 minutes.
Busy turning up 13mm inserts threaded for 6mm bolts.
Welding will commence later.
To minimize any potential warping I will bolt the camcover down onto a spare cylinder head while welding.
If my welding looks OK I will post a pic   ;)

....and in mine too.    It's worked for years.
Time sert work fine too. They have survived several assemblies and disassemblies better then the helicoil in threads that are frequenly used.
I'm told that the kibblewhite 5mm valve kit has springs with less pressure than std race springs. Also good for the threads.
Cams with relatively short duration and high lift will cause more stress, right? Or is it anything in real life?

DP315 has not that high lift and has a little bit longer duration. 0.3mm (0.12") in valve lash must be healthy too. (I set my other cams to 0.1mm In/ 0.15mm Ex

A valve cover with 8 bolts will sooner or later find its home on top of my engine :) I have an old dark grey with welded bolt holes from a K0 in need of TLC. It has JB weld around the welds that need to be removed. Grind and eventually seal if needed, but in alu look.

Back in the day when we first started modding these motors, thewre were no valve springs. RC and othere were using S&W springs from, I believe,  a 2.3 liter Pinto engine. Way too much pressure and lifted the cam towers up.  That is when the bolts in the valve cover thing started.

Later on, we had springs specifically designed for the sohc 750 and with the correct pressure.  That was the end of needing that mod.

My Yoshimura 812 and Daytona cam kit came with S & W springs.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Back in the day when we first started modding these motors, thewre were no valve springs. RC and othere were using S&W springs from, I believe,  a 2.3 liter Pinto engine. Way too much pressure and lifted the cam towers up.  That is when the bolts in the valve cover thing started.

Later on, we had springs specifically designed for the sohc 750 and with the correct pressure.  That was the end of needing that mod.

And that was the reason I never bothered to mod my cover. I was concerned I was missing something here. I've been using APE springs since 1998 with no issues of pulling rocker studs/screws out in my 1030cc motor with RC327 cam. Goodness knows I have enough stuff to worry about instead of old school aesthetics. Still happy to see you guys thinking of new methods of doing the same trick-evolution at  its best.

You can always tease someone you beat that extra weight helps you turn in more consistent lights...
Have them head scratch on that for a while.
