New from New Hampshire
« on: October 27, 2016, 06:43:27 PM »
Hello everyone, my name is Jason and have been lurking around here a bit amassing as much info as I can about the CB750 and CB550 bikes. I have a 78 CB750F that I am currently working on. Rebuilt the chassis and have a roller now. Have started on the engine and have it disassembled to fix the transmission issue and cam issue. While the engine is apart I plan on having the crank cleaned up and putting in 836 piston kit from Dynoman as well as some other upgrades. Hope to have it running for next season, we shall see. I have a couple of other project bikes going on at the same time. You are probably thinking "why". Honestly I don't know. :o

My other project bikes, in various stages of repair/ disrepair are: 1973 Honda XL250 Motosport (almost complete), 1982 Honda FT500 Ascot (needs engine work), and 1986 Cagiva Alazzurra 650 (electrical update). I also have two CB550s, but am not sure what I will be doing with them.

Hope to start a projects page on the 750 shortly and start posting pictures!

Welcome!

Check the head too, 78Fs typically wear out valve guides between 20 000 and 30 000 miles.

Also there is an article by Hondaman about advancing the cam for 1978 CB750F to lower the power band rpms.  I done it on my Red and love it.

Thanks for the info on the head. I was considering rebuilding the head, but I am definitely now. The stock am is shot. Rocker arm chewed it up. Replacing the cam and having the rocker arms refaced. Still deciding what I want for a cam. It is going to be a road bike, no racing.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!
