No speedo?  What are you doing for a tail light?

Hey Bud...No speedo...Yet.  Not going to run a mechanical one anyway.  I rode for almost 20 years with out one on my FXR.   I have a long beard and can tell how fast I am going by how badly it is #$%* slapping me.  In fact the FXR didn't even have turn signals.  :)

Take a closer look at the tail section it is right under the rear.

I've had to replace the speedo on my bobber about four or five times in the last ten years.  I've ridden a lot of miles without a working speedo.  I could tell how fast I was going by what gear I was in and the sound of the engine and the wind in my ears.  The bobber never had turn signals and neither does the CB750.

I couldn't tell if that was a tail light or the mounting surface on the frame?  Is it a blacked out tail light?

Nothing that I have done, but it is a darker plastic.  It is bright as day lit up.

I am fabricating one that will be apart of chain guard. If I do not like that, I will make one that mounts off shock.

Nice!  Mounting a plate is always the part that kills me.  Take a great looking rear end and gotta stick a plate on it

Totally agree with that.  Thank God the plates aren't the size of regular auto plates.   :)  Either way I go with, will be vertical with out any lighting.

ugh, I hadn't even considered a plate... I'll probably just keep it in a backpack and tell the officer I was on my way home to put it on (every time I get pulled over)

Your bike is coming together really nicely!
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

You don't have to have a license plate light in CO?  You get a ticket for that in Texas.  In fact my cousin got a ticket for no plate light after I warned him.

While not on a motorcycle at the time thankfully, had 50-70mph gusting crosswinds south of Tucson to Benson, AZ travelling SW to S direction. Was stopped by State Trooper because of lack of license light. Was needing some bushing work on the car and was being blown by the gusts and he probably suspected me of being drunk.  Saw where he came out off the ramp but didn't realize he was on the ramp until later. He gave me a fix it ticket, no fine if you turned in evidence of fixing vehicle violation within 7 days and submitted evidence to St Trooper post/office or mailed it in. He was nice and it was blowing sand and other crap and nearly everyone was getting blown all over the road.
Not even an hour later I was pulled over by Huachuca City Police, overly aggressive police known for speed traps and tickets for anything and everything. He was going to write me up and ticket me for the license plate light. But I had the warning ticket earlier that got me out of a ticket requiring me to pay!
With modern LEDs you can put a couple LED strip lights of 3 LEDs on a bracket over the top of the plate and it will be lit up like daylight. Small gauge wires in a good water-resistant sleeve can be traced back along inside of swing arm or under swing arm where it can be hidden, made less obvious.

They make weather resistant strip LED lights that can be cut every three LEDs to whatever length you need and comes in various colors, white, blue, etc.   Some states have restrictions on height of plates above the ground, so find out the laws for your state, lest any zealous/over-zealous police officer decide to add to the revenue stream for the state/locality.  These height regulations I don't think can be enforced on out of state bikes when you don't live in that state. They may ticket you for it and only way to defeat is with appearance, the bank on fact you won't be returning to fight it.

Yea.  It isn't worth messing with.  AZ was very lenient.  CO requires the light.

"Either a tail lamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white
light the rear registration plate and render it clearly legible from a distance of fifty feet to the rear. Any
tail lamp or tail lamps, together with any separate lamp for illuminating the rear registration plate, shall be
so wired as to be lighted whenever the head lamps or auxiliary driving lamps are lighted."

Looks like I will run something compatible and clean on the bike.

Tonight I finished up roughing in the front brake plumbing.  I used a rear brake flex line to connect from light switch to master cylinder up front.  The length was perfect.  I am debating on the finish of the M/C.  Does caliper paint hold up to brake fluid?   I may just polish these items just to not have to worry about it.

I've had ok results with caliper paint on masters.  I do think polishing the switches would look great though.  What's left to fire it?  Looks really close!

I have all the wiring and plumbing to do.   I will take the tank and seat off and have at it very soon.  I am going to do some soul searching to see if I am going to start from scratch or use some of the harness.

I found these on Ebay.  I will use them to mount the plate to the frame.  We will see how it works out.

Did you adjust your steer stops to help protect your tank from the clip-ons smacking into it?

I finished up a bunch of little stuff.  Awaiting my caliper rebuild kits.   Took the bike down from the stand for the first time.  Straddled it and made a few vroom vroom noises.

looking very nice!  you will never catch the real effect of that flake on camera...it will be so much more in person. That's the shame about it.  I wonder if even video captures it?  4K might...not sure.

So true.  I may roll it out in the sun today for a better blingy photo.  :)
