cb550 Fork identification
« on: October 06, 2016, 07:12:18 PM »
Hi.Im trying to find the correct forks tubes to order for my 1978 cb550k.
length of tube is 22 7/16" or 570mm.
The groove measurement up from bottom of fork is 64mm to the centre. The groove is 9mm wide. There is one hole in the groove
Is this the standard dimensions or are the77-78 bike tubes different ? If anybody could point me in the right direction, much appreciated.
Mike.

I would suggest you contact Matt at RACE-TECH in So.Cal.  They sell replacement fork tubes for these bikes. IF you aren't sure that your forks are OEM original, send him your measurements and he'll get you the right setup.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

The assembly looks the same as a 1978 cb550k USA model (please see photo). Mine is an Australian import. I've emailed forks by frank and, as suggested ,Race tech, and am waiting on reply. I should be able to order by part number from dealer, #51410404003, mine is 78 model so should be ok?

Hi.Just reporting on the fork tube status.I have had the tubes re hard chromed. They cylindrically ground off the old chrome, then re chromed and ground down to original specs. then polish. I had trouble finding new replacements but now i am glad to have reused the originals. They look amazing and I have just fit them up with new seals and reassembled.I Got the chroming done Locally at A1 Hard chrome in Lidcombe Sydney. Mike.
