Original Post: It has been a great day:
- Just bought my first bike, a '75 CB750!
- OSU beat Michigan - AGAIN!
- My car repair chores went smoothly!
- The first day I have been able to drive my wife's Honda S2000 for any distance. Went top down most of the day!
I will have my pics up in the gallery within a day or two. The bike is a '75 CB750 with around 30,000 miles. It is the orange metallic color, and has all the original emblems and decals. Mostly original except for seat and mirrors. This is one of those bikes that has been maintained reasonably well and is not bad cosmetically, but shows 30 years of wear. All the usual stuff has been done: valves, carbs, tires, battery, etc. Everything works on it. A bit of polish and maybe repaint the tank, and it will be a really nice bike.
I am late forties, and have done sports car racing for years. I have one kid in college and a second will be starting next year, so I will be setting that aside for awhile, and I always wanted to learn to ride, so I took the MSF course this summer and got my endorsement. Am a reasonable mechanic with cars, but bikes are new to me.
I'll be spending the winter honing my skills by riding around the neighborhood and checking everything on the bike.
A couple things I am looking for are:
- Detailed description of model year differences with these bikes
- Discussion of weak points and things to pay attention to on these bikes
- References to good local mechanics / shops
- Parts sources
Looking forward to learning about this bike!
