Float Hts..74 CB550 FOUR
« on: November 13, 2016, 11:33:00 AM »
]I guess maybe the search feature here isnt working???  Anyway, I have been using the service manual inn the link below and I noticed that pages 7 and 8 are missing...which most likely would have the float ht specs on them.  Can someone please tell me the specs for setting the floats and what the wet reading for the fuel levels with the clear tube method should be.

It runs great but it feels like its surging a little and I am thinking it may be fuel level related.  I have new intake rubber and all new clamps  and have sprayed ether around the carbs and intakes and there isnt any change of RPMs due to an air leak. this leads me to think my "guess " when setting the floats was wrong.  Think I went with something like 24 MM.

Bike is bone stock...see pics below.

So as i suspected at 24 they are keeping the fuel levels too low..thus the surging. Thanks. I will reset them and take her out for another run.  This is the first time the bike has been ran since sometime near 1984 as that was the last inspection stickers date that was on the fork lowers.  Have had her at 75 on the freeway today and its a fun little bike by all accounts.

Float level is shown on p.60 however. Service manual that has pages 7 and 8 is here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/shop-manual

While you're in the bottom of the carbs, make sure all 4 of the jets are correct and the same. Ask me how I know.  :o
