New Guy In Texas - '73 CB500 Build

Hello all,

Just thought I'd better introduce myself as I'm sure I'll be here often with lots of questions!

I just picked up what I believe to be a '73 CB500, partially intact, with many parts (original and not) in boxes.  I'm looking forward to getting this thing running before I tear it back down again, clean it up, and hopefully end up with a fairly well restored version.

I'm open to any advice from those of you who have done similar. 

Plan A is to order some new plugs, wires, and a length of hoses to see if this thing will kick over in the next few days.

The plug wires are hardwire to the coils, so that requires a splice. Probably all you might need is plugs and plug caps. The caps should measure about 5k Ohms. NGK sells new noes that twist on and you're good to go.

You can download the Service Manual off this forum and perform the 3K Service Interval. That generally gets a bike into pretty decent nick, and also helps you identify any issues that need further attention/replacement beyond the normal service.

Stick with stock, original brass for your carbs should you pull them apart. You can use aftermarket gaskets and o-rings, but the brass is best left stock and original.
