Wikipedia is a good start for some research - if you can at least identify the makers mark first.

Find a local collector. Most of them enjoy seeing stuff, and will come take a looK free of charge. Or, take them to a reputable shop. Likely at least some one in there can point you in the right direction.

SMH, never even thought about Wikipedia. Guess I wasn't really thinking at all.  ::)
Thank you, for bringing that up.  ;)

Bill, try GunsAmerica.com Its a large retail and private sale site. You can usually find at least 1 of what you have for sale somewhere to give you an idea of their value.

Now, that would be helpful, kinda like checking bike parts prices and comparing them to what you might have to sell. Nice!!  ;)

Thank you, for that, though I am not sure about where a local collector might be, we live by a pretty small town, But I might check around, if I don't find out what I am wanting to know, by using the other info provided here. Either way, you folks have given me something to go with, and I am totally appreciative of that.  8) ;)

Run swiftly into your nearest police station (Sheriff's office, Kommandatur etc) bearing the firearm you wish to be identified. No doubt in your subsequent trial (or inquest  :() all will be clarified.

But I hasten to add, Bill, I only propose the least desirable  option.  Just in case the more enlightened suggestions already offered prove to be fruitless.

LOL, yeah, I was thinking that this one is just a little bit , um, "drastic"?  Yeah, I think I will basically pass, on this one. No offence, mind you.  ;D ;) Also, at that rate, it would take me forever, to check out several guns (Depending on how long I was incarcerated for, for each offense.  :-\   :)

Yes, I see my approach is flawed. It provided simply for a one off identification. And not necessarily with a happy ending. As they say.

Hey, at least you DID offer something up. A bit unorthodox I might say, but was something.

Are these antique guns?  Most firearms made since the late 1800's have have the make and model number or designation on them.  Armed with that info (pun intended) Google may not be our friend but it is a good place to start. ;)

I doubt seriously if there are any that are any where near that old. I do have a Derringer over and under 2 shot and a revolver that I think is about a 25 caliber and has no guard around the trigger. Got a Long Barrel 22 Revolver, a couple of 22 cal. Snubnose revolvers and a few others. Not really looking to see about selling any, just wondered about any info I might can get about them. I really need to get them out and take some photos of them. And I need to look them over real well, to get whatever markings are there. Thanks for your input here, ofreen, been awhile. Bill ;)

Some of the older guns can be a challenge to get info on if they were made for retailers by other manufacturers.  Iver Johnson and H & R did a lot of that, among others.  Will be interested to see photos.
