Topic: Maintenance Stand/Paddock Stand

What is the best stand for the shop?  I have a 72 CB500, which doesn't have a center stand on the bike.  Looking for the easiest way to get the bike off the floor minus taking the headers off to get a standard floor jack on the frame.

Pit Bull makes a convenient and stable stand. Handles our bikes quite well, allows you move the bike while on the stand, and raise/lower it one handed.

buy a center stand and keep it handy for when you need it. Then pop it off when you don't!

Or the pitbull stand. I've also heard good things.

I was going to suggest an ABBA Stand.  It lifts the bike at the swinging arm point so access when working on rear end is easy.  You do have to have specific to the bike adapters which fit the s/arm bolt/pivot.  Unfortunately they don't go back to 1972 but a custom set of adapters should be easy enough.  This I guess is more of a "food for thought" post but check them out on the link:

Those ABBA Stands are the dog's do-dahs. I have one, which I bought for my Yam XJR1200, now sold. That was a heavy bugger, but the ABBA stand handled it with ease. One man operation, heck a twelve year old girl could use it, vey stable and so easy to work on the front or rear of the bike. They also do a front lift to go with it, but a piece of two by four wedged between the bottom rails will do the same job. Didn't know they were available in the US, They're manufactured just up the road from me. I've used mine on various bikes since, using sockets instead of the proper adapters (not recommended, but it works).
