One of my high-school buddy's dad told us a story: after the end of WWII in Scotland, parts were hard to come by, so he crafted a piston for an old Brit bike out of hardwood, and immediately sold the bike to his rival of the affections of a fair maiden. He used the proceeds to buy a better bike, and "happened" upon the couple, broken down at the side of the road when the piston failed, giving him the opportunity to "rescue" the maiden, who he married and was Ian's mother. ;D ;D
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

That makes the cat8 bolts I found used as replacement conrod bolts in a high dollar race motor look high tech. :)

a buddy of mine bought a brit single from a shop in England and had it shipped to him ,he found everything wrong, the bike was built from leftover parts,at that time you had to send stuff to shops in England to get it fixed, cost him a fortune,no wooden piston but close!!bill

Haha!  Great story. ;D   Everyone knows Brits break down when they get a bit of Scottish hardwood in them.  ;)

the piston crown could be easily raised with LiquidWood to change compression ratio. You obviously have to clean first the oily deposits to get good adhesion.  have to give this a try :)
